2016 CR-V CVT Shuddering and Jerking - What's going on?

Hey everyone, I'm hoping for some advice here. My 2016 Honda CR-V EX-L, with about 85,000 miles, has started to develop a noticeable shudder or judder, especially when accelerating from a stop or at low speeds. It feels like the transmission is slipping or vibrating. It's really concerning and makes driving feel unsafe.

I've heard about CVT issues with some Honda models. Is this a known problem for the 2016 CR-V? What could be causing this, and what kind of repair am I looking at? I've been pretty good with maintenance, but I'm not sure if the transmission fluid has ever been changed.

Summary: For 2016 CR-V CVT Shuddering and Jerking - What's going on?, work through these steps on your 2015+ vehicle:

  1. Confirm the symptom — note when it happens (cold start, highway, after fuel fill, etc.).
  2. Scan codes — save all pending/stored DTCs; don't clear until you've recorded them.
  3. Check TSBs & recalls — look up your VIN for open campaigns and known fixes.
  4. Inspect the obvious — related fuses, connectors, fluid level, and recent repairs.
  5. Test the common fix — follow model-specific service procedures; one change at a time.
  6. Escalate if needed — burning smell, no brakes, overheating, or stalling in traffic → shop visit.
