Vehicle: 2023 Hyundai Palisade Calligraphy

My 2023 Hyundai Palisade Calligraphy has been a fantastic vehicle, but I'm constantly battling issues with the infotainment system. The large screen frequently freezes up, becoming completely unresponsive. This usually happens when I'm navigating or trying to switch audio sources.

Even more frustrating is the constant disconnecting of Apple CarPlay. I'll be driving along, and suddenly CarPlay will just drop, sometimes reconnecting after a few seconds, other times requiring me to unplug and replug my phone. I've tried multiple cables and different phones, but the problem persists.

Is this a common issue with the Palisade's infotainment? Are there any known fixes or software updates I should be aware of? It's really detracting from the premium experience.

ClearTheCode admin answer:

Infotainment system glitches, including freezing screens and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto disconnects, are unfortunately not uncommon across many modern vehicles, including the 2023 Hyundai Palisade. These systems are complex, integrating multiple software and hardware components.

Here's a guide to understanding and addressing these issues:

  1. Common Causes:
    • Software Bugs: The most frequent culprit is software bugs within the infotainment system's operating system or the CarPlay/Android Auto integration. Updates are often released to fix these.
    • Cable Quality: While you've tried multiple cables, ensure they are high-quality, MFi-certified (for Apple CarPlay), and specifically designed for data transfer, not just charging. Cheap or worn cables are a primary cause of disconnects.
    • Phone Issues: Sometimes, the issue can stem from your phone's software (e.g., outdated iOS/Android, app conflicts). Ensure your phone's OS is up to date.
    • USB Port Issues: A faulty USB port in the vehicle can also cause intermittent connections.
    • Module Glitch: Less common, but a specific infotainment control module could be malfunctioning.
  2. Troubleshooting Steps You Can Take:
    • Soft Reset: Try performing a soft reset of the infotainment system. Look for a small pinhole reset button (often near the volume knob or screen edge) and press it with a paperclip for a few seconds. This can resolve temporary software glitches.
    • Check for Updates: Hyundai frequently releases over-the-air (OTA) updates or updates available via USB stick for their infotainment systems. Check your vehicle's settings for system updates or visit the Hyundai owner's website for your specific model.
    • Clear Phone Cache/Settings: On your phone, try forgetting the car in your CarPlay/Android Auto settings and re-pairing it.
  3. When to See a Shop:
    • If the soft reset and software updates don't resolve the issue, or if the freezing is frequent and severe, it's time to visit a Hyundai dealership.
    • Explain the exact symptoms and mention the troubleshooting steps you've already taken. They can perform a deeper diagnostic, check for any internal TSBs, and potentially reflash the infotainment system's software or replace a faulty component under warranty.

This is a warranty-covered issue, so don't hesitate to involve the dealership to get it resolved.
