2018 Santa Fe Sport Transmission Fluid Change Interval?

Hey everyone, I've got a 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport with about 85,000 miles on it. Lately, I've noticed a slight hesitation when shifting gears, especially from 2nd to 3rd. It's not terrible, but it's definitely noticeable.

I'm wondering if it's time to consider a transmission fluid change. The owner's manual mentions 'inspect' but doesn't give a clear change interval for 'normal' driving conditions. I mostly do highway driving, but also a fair bit of city traffic.

Has anyone with a similar model year Santa Fe done a transmission fluid change? What was your experience, and did it help with shifting issues? I'm trying to figure out if this is a DIY job or something best left to the dealership.

Summary: For 2018 Santa Fe Sport Transmission Fluid Change Interval?, work through these steps on your 2015+ vehicle:

  1. Confirm the symptom — note when it happens (cold start, highway, after fuel fill, etc.).
  2. Scan codes — save all pending/stored DTCs; don't clear until you've recorded them.
  3. Check TSBs & recalls — look up your VIN for open campaigns and known fixes.
  4. Inspect the obvious — related fuses, connectors, fluid level, and recent repairs.
  5. Test the common fix — follow model-specific service procedures; one change at a time.
  6. Escalate if needed — burning smell, no brakes, overheating, or stalling in traffic → shop visit.
