Vehicle: 2022 Hyundai Tucson Limited

Hello everyone,

I'm having some frustrating electrical issues with my 2022 Hyundai Tucson Limited. It's only got about 25,000 miles on it. The main problem is a recurring battery drain. If I leave it parked for more than a day or two, the battery is completely dead. I've had it jumped multiple times.

In addition to that, the infotainment system frequently freezes up. The screen becomes unresponsive, and I can't change radio stations, use navigation, or connect my phone. Sometimes it reboots itself, but other times I have to turn the car off and on to get it working again. I've tried updating the software myself, but it hasn't helped.

Are these common issues for the newer Tucsons? Could they be related? Any ideas on what might be causing this or what I should tell the dealership?

Battery drain and infotainment system issues are frustrating, especially on a newer vehicle like your 2022 Hyundai Tucson Limited. These problems can sometimes be related due to interconnected electrical systems.

  1. Address Battery Drain First: A parasitic draw is the most likely cause of your battery draining so quickly. This means something is drawing power even when the car is off.
    • Common Culprits: Infotainment systems (if not properly shutting down), telematics units (like Blue Link), faulty modules, or even aftermarket accessories can cause this.
    • DIY Check (Basic): Ensure all interior lights are off, doors are fully closed, and no accessories are left plugged in. If you have a multimeter, you can attempt to measure parasitic draw, but this can be complex.
  2. Infotainment Freezing: This is a separate but potentially related issue.
    • Software Glitches: Despite your attempts, there might be a newer software update available from the dealer, or a specific TSB addressing known bugs.
    • Hardware Failure: The head unit itself could be faulty, or there might be an issue with its internal components or connections.
    • Power Fluctuation: If the battery is constantly low or dying, it can cause erratic behavior in sensitive electronics like the infotainment system.
  3. When to See a Shop: You should schedule an appointment with your Hyundai dealership immediately. Here's why:
    • Warranty: Your vehicle is still under warranty, and these issues should be covered.
    • Specialized Tools: Dealerships have specialized diagnostic tools to pinpoint parasitic draws and diagnose infotainment system faults accurately.
    • TSBs/Recalls: They can check for any relevant Technical Service Bulletins or recalls that might address these specific problems. There have been TSBs for infotainment software updates and battery drain issues on various Hyundai models.
    • Comprehensive Diagnosis: They can determine if the battery drain is causing the infotainment issues, or if they are independent problems requiring separate fixes. Be sure to clearly describe both symptoms and when they occur.
