Vehicle: 2017 Infiniti Q50 3.0t Luxe

Hey everyone, I'm having some serious issues with the infotainment system in my 2017 Infiniti Q50 3.0t Luxe. Lately, the dual screens have been freezing up completely, sometimes going black, and becoming totally unresponsive to touch.

It's incredibly frustrating, especially when trying to use navigation or connect my phone via Bluetooth. Sometimes it reboots itself, but the problem always comes back. I've tried restarting the car, but that's only a temporary fix, if at all.

Has anyone else experienced this with their Q50? Is there a known fix or a common part that fails? I'm wondering if it's a software glitch or something more serious with the hardware. Any advice on what to check before taking it to the dealership would be greatly appreciated!

The freezing and unresponsiveness of the Infiniti InTouch system in your 2017 Q50 is a known concern for some owners. This issue can stem from several causes, ranging from software glitches to hardware failures.

  1. Software Glitch/Update: Often, these issues can be resolved with a software update. Infiniti periodically releases updates for the InTouch system that address bugs and improve stability. Your dealership can check if your system has the latest firmware.
  2. Hard Reset: A temporary hard reset can sometimes clear the issue. This involves disconnecting the negative terminal of your car battery for about 15-20 minutes, then reconnecting it. This can reset the vehicle's electrical modules, including the infotainment system. Ensure you have your radio code if required.
  3. Fuse Check: A blown or loose fuse related to the infotainment system could cause intermittent power issues or complete failure. Consult your owner's manual for the exact fuse box location and the specific fuse for the InTouch system. Replace any blown fuses with one of the correct amperage.
  4. Hardware Failure: If software updates and resets don't work, the issue might be hardware-related. The InTouch control unit or the display screens themselves could be failing. This is more common in older units due to wear and tear. There are no specific OBD codes for infotainment system failures directly, but a dealership diagnostic tool can often pinpoint communication errors within the system.

When to see a shop:

If the problem persists after trying a battery reset and checking fuses, or if the system completely fails and remains black, it's best to take your Q50 to an authorized Infiniti service center. They have specialized diagnostic tools to identify communication errors between modules and can determine if a software update is needed or if a component like the InTouch control unit or display screen needs replacement. They can also check for any relevant Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) that might address this specific issue.
