Vehicle: 2022 Infiniti Q50 Sensory

Hi everyone,

I'm having a weird issue with my 2022 Infiniti Q50 Sensory. While driving today, the ABS light, Traction Control light, and the Slip light all came on simultaneously. At the same time, my speedometer started acting erratically, jumping up and down, and sometimes dropping to zero even when I was clearly moving.

I pulled over and restarted the car, and the lights went off for a bit, but then came back on after a few miles. The brakes feel normal, but I'm concerned about the safety systems being disabled. I don't have any Check Engine Light on.

What could be causing all these lights and the speedometer issue at once? Is this a common problem on newer Q50s? Could it be a wheel speed sensor, or something more serious with the ABS module?

The simultaneous illumination of ABS, Traction Control, and Slip lights, coupled with an erratic speedometer on your 2022 Infiniti Q50, strongly points to an issue with a wheel speed sensor or the ABS control module. These systems rely heavily on accurate wheel speed data.

  1. Wheel Speed Sensor (WSS) Failure:

    • Cause: A faulty wheel speed sensor (also known as an ABS sensor) is the most common culprit. If one sensor is sending incorrect or no data, the ABS/Traction Control system gets confused, and the speedometer (which often uses one of these sensors for its input) will also be affected.
    • Action: While you don't have a CEL, there will almost certainly be ABS-specific codes stored. A professional scan tool can identify which specific wheel speed sensor is malfunctioning. Visually inspect all four wheel speed sensors and their wiring for any signs of damage, corrosion, or loose connections. Sometimes, debris can interfere with the sensor's reading.
  2. ABS Control Module Issue:

    • Cause: Less common than a sensor, but a failing ABS control module (or Hydraulic Control Unit) can cause these symptoms. If the module itself is unable to process the sensor inputs correctly or has an internal fault, it will trigger all related warning lights.
    • Action: This is typically diagnosed after ruling out all wheel speed sensor issues. A shop can perform specific diagnostic tests on the ABS module. If the module is at fault, it often requires replacement and programming.
  3. Wiring or Connector Problems:

    • Cause: Damaged wiring or corroded connectors leading to any of the wheel speed sensors or the ABS module can interrupt signals, mimicking a sensor failure.
    • Action: A thorough visual inspection of the wiring harnesses, especially where they pass through wheel wells or near moving parts, is crucial. Look for chafing, cuts, or signs of rodent damage.
  4. Low Battery Voltage (Less Likely for this specific combo):

    • Cause: While a weak battery can cause various electrical gremlins, it's less likely to cause this specific combination of symptoms without other starting or electrical issues.
    • Action: Ensure your battery is in good health and fully charged, though this is usually a secondary check for these specific symptoms.

When to See a Shop: Given that multiple safety systems are affected and the speedometer is erratic, it's highly recommended to have your Q50 diagnosed by an Infiniti dealership or a reputable shop as soon as possible. They have the specialized diagnostic tools to read ABS-specific codes and accurately pinpoint the failing component. Driving with compromised ABS and Traction Control can be a safety risk, especially in adverse weather conditions.
