Vehicle: 2024 Infiniti Q50 Sensory

Hello everyone, I just got my 2024 Infiniti Q50 Sensory a few months ago, and I'm already having a strange issue. While driving yesterday, the VDC OFF and SLIP warning lights suddenly illuminated on the dashboard. There were no strange noises or feelings, and the car seems to drive normally.

I pulled over, turned the car off and on, and the lights were gone for a bit, but then came back. The weirdest part is when I scanned it with my OBD-II reader, there are no active or pending codes! This is frustrating for a brand new car.

Has anyone with a newer Q50 experienced this? What could cause these lights to come on without any diagnostic trouble codes? Could it be a sensor issue, even without a code?

It's certainly frustrating to have warning lights on a brand new 2024 Infiniti Q50, especially without accompanying OBD-II codes. The VDC OFF and SLIP lights typically indicate an issue with the Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) system, which includes traction control and stability control functions. While a generic OBD-II scanner might not show codes, a more advanced scanner or the dealership's diagnostic equipment often will reveal specific 'C' (Chassis) or 'U' (Network) codes.

Here are the most common causes for these lights to illuminate without a generic OBD-II code:

  1. Wheel Speed Sensors: These sensors (one at each wheel) provide crucial data to the VDC and ABS systems. A faulty, dirty, or intermittently failing wheel speed sensor can cause these lights. Even a loose connection or damaged wiring can trigger it. The VDC system might detect an inconsistent signal but not a complete circuit failure, thus not setting a generic P-code.
  2. Steering Angle Sensor: This sensor tells the VDC system the position of the steering wheel. If it's out of calibration or faulty, the VDC system might think the wheels are turning differently than the steering input, triggering the lights. This is especially common after suspension work or alignments if not recalibrated.
  3. Brake Light Switch: A faulty brake light switch can sometimes cause VDC/ABS lights, as the VDC system relies on brake pedal input. If the switch is sending inconsistent signals, it can confuse the system.
  4. Low Brake Fluid: While less common to trigger VDC/SLIP directly without a brake warning light, extremely low fluid can impact ABS/VDC functionality.
  5. Tire Size Mismatch: If you have different sized tires on your Q50 (even slightly different wear patterns can sometimes contribute), the VDC system might interpret the differing wheel speeds as a slip.
  6. Intermittent Electrical Glitch/Software Bug: On newer vehicles with complex electronics, a temporary communication error between modules or a minor software glitch can sometimes trigger these lights. The 'off and on' reset you experienced supports this possibility.

When to See a Shop: Given that your Q50 is a 2024 model, it's under warranty. Your best course of action is to schedule an appointment with your Infiniti dealership immediately. They have specialized diagnostic tools (like CONSULT-III Plus) that can:

  • Read manufacturer-specific 'C' and 'U' codes that generic scanners miss.
  • Monitor live data from all VDC/ABS sensors.
  • Perform system calibrations and software updates.

Do not try to diagnose or repair complex VDC system issues yourself on a new vehicle, as it could void parts of your warranty or lead to incorrect repairs. Let the dealership handle it.
