2022 QX50 Headlights Flickering Intermittently - LED Issues?

Vehicle: 2022 Infiniti QX50 Sensory

My 2022 Infiniti QX50 Sensory has started having its LED headlights flicker intermittently, sometimes one side, sometimes both. It's not a constant flicker, more like a brief dimming or stutter that lasts a second or two. It's quite distracting and makes me worry about safety, especially at night.

I haven't hit any potholes or had any front-end damage. What could be causing this in such a new vehicle? It seems too new for electrical problems like this. I've checked all the exterior lights and they all seem to be working, just the main headlights are acting up.

  1. Check Connections: Even in a new car, sometimes a connection can be loose or not fully seated. While difficult to access for the average owner, a technician would inspect the wiring harnesses connected to the headlight assemblies.
  2. LED Driver/Ballast: LED headlights, especially factory units, rely on a dedicated driver or control unit to regulate power. A failing driver unit can cause flickering or intermittent operation. This unit is typically integrated into or closely associated with the entire headlight assembly.
  3. Wiring Harness Issues: While less common in newer vehicles, a pinched, chafed, or damaged wire in the headlight circuit can cause intermittent power delivery, leading to flickering.
  4. Body Control Module (BCM): The BCM controls various electrical functions, including exterior lighting. A rare internal fault in the BCM or a software glitch could potentially manifest as flickering lights, as it's responsible for sending the correct signals to the headlight units.
  5. Voltage Fluctuations: Less likely in a 2022 model, but issues with the alternator or battery (though usually more pronounced and affecting multiple systems) could cause voltage dips that affect sensitive LEDs.

Causes: The most probable causes for flickering LED headlights in a newer vehicle are a faulty LED driver/control unit within the headlight assembly itself, or a loose/corroded electrical connection somewhere in the circuit. Given the vehicle's age, a manufacturing defect is also a possibility.

When to See a Shop: Given that your QX50 is a 2022 model, it's almost certainly still under factory warranty. This issue should be addressed by an authorized Infiniti dealership immediately. Do not attempt to modify or replace components yourself, as this could void your warranty. The dealership has specialized diagnostic tools to pinpoint the exact cause, whether it's a faulty headlight assembly, a wiring issue, or a BCM problem, and can perform the repair under warranty. Document the flickering with a video if possible to show the service technician.
