Vehicle: 2022 Infiniti QX50 Essential

Hello forum,

I'm having an issue with my 2022 Infiniti QX50 Essential. For the past few weeks, I've noticed it consistently pulls to the right, even on flat roads. I have to constantly correct the steering wheel to keep it straight. On top of that, I'm getting a noticeable vibration through the steering wheel, especially when I'm driving at highway speeds (60 mph and above).

The car has about 25,000 miles on it. I haven't hit any major potholes recently that I can recall. I checked the tire pressure, and they all seem to be at the recommended levels. Could this be an alignment issue, or something more serious with the steering components?

Any insights would be great!

The symptoms you're describing – pulling to one side and steering wheel vibration – are classic indicators of issues related to your vehicle's alignment, tires, or steering/suspension components. It's important to address these for both driving comfort and safety.

Common Causes:

  1. Wheel Alignment Issues: This is the most common cause for a vehicle pulling to one side. Even a minor bump or curb strike can throw off the alignment angles (toe, camber, caster).
  2. Tire Imbalance: Unbalanced tires are a primary cause of steering wheel vibration, especially at highway speeds. If a weight has fallen off a wheel, or if the tires are worn unevenly, this can occur.
  3. Uneven Tire Wear or Damage: A tire with a bulge, separation, or uneven wear pattern can cause both pulling and vibration.
  4. Worn Steering/Suspension Components: Components like tie rod ends, ball joints, or wheel bearings, if worn, can introduce play that leads to pulling and vibration. This is less common on a 2022 model with 25k miles but still possible.
  5. Brake Drag: A sticking brake caliper (as mentioned in another thread) can cause a slight pull to one side, though it's usually accompanied by heat or a burning smell.

Recommended Steps:

  1. Check Tire Pressure Again: Even if you checked, ensure all tires (including the spare, if applicable) are at the manufacturer's recommended pressure. Uneven pressure can cause pulling.
  2. Tire Rotation and Balance: Have your tires rotated and balanced. If the vibration moves or disappears after rotation, it points to a tire-related issue.
  3. Professional Alignment Check: A reputable shop can perform an alignment check to see if your vehicle's angles are within specification. This is often the first step to diagnose pulling.

When to See a Shop:

You should schedule an appointment with a mechanic or tire shop soon. Driving with alignment issues can lead to premature and uneven tire wear, reducing tire lifespan and potentially affecting handling in emergency situations. Vibration can also be a sign of more serious component wear. A professional can accurately diagnose the root cause and perform the necessary alignment, tire balancing, or component replacement. There are no specific OBD codes for these mechanical issues.
