2018 QX60 CVT Whining Noise & Fluid Change Question

Hello everyone,

My 2018 Infiniti QX60 AWD, with about 85,000 miles, has started making a noticeable whining noise, especially when accelerating from a stop or at lower speeds. It sounds like it's coming from the transmission area. I'm worried it might be the CVT.

I haven't changed the CVT fluid yet, and I'm wondering if this noise could be a symptom of old fluid. What's the recommended service interval for the CVT fluid on these QX60s? Is it too late to change it now that I'm hearing a noise? Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated!

Recommended Interval: Infiniti's official stance on CVT fluid can vary, but generally, for severe driving conditions (which include frequent short trips, heavy loads, or hot climates), a CVT fluid change is recommended every 30,000 to 60,000 miles. Given your mileage, it's certainly overdue if it hasn't been done, and this could be contributing to the noise.
  2. Causes of Whining Noise: A common cause of whining in CVTs is degraded or low fluid. The fluid lubricates the belt/chain and pulleys, and when it breaks down, it can lead to increased friction, wear, and noise.
