Vehicle: 2020 Infiniti QX60 Pure

Hi everyone,

I'm having some serious issues with the infotainment system in my 2020 Infiniti QX60 Pure. Lately, the screen has been freezing up completely, becoming unresponsive to touch, and sometimes it just goes completely black for several minutes before restarting itself. This happens randomly, whether I'm using navigation, listening to the radio, or have my phone connected via Apple CarPlay.

It's really distracting and makes using the car's features a pain. I've tried restarting the car, but the problem keeps coming back. Is this a known issue with the QX60? Could it be a software glitch, or something more serious like a failing head unit? Any suggestions on what I can try to fix this?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Infotainment system issues like freezing and blackouts are common complaints across many modern vehicles, including the Infiniti QX60. Here's a breakdown of potential causes and solutions:

  1. Soft Reset: Try performing a soft reset of the infotainment system. While the exact method varies, it often involves holding down the power button for the radio for 10-15 seconds until the system reboots. Consult your owner's manual for the specific procedure for your 2020 QX60.
  2. Firmware Update: Outdated software is a frequent cause of glitches. Check with your Infiniti dealership if there are any pending software or firmware updates for your infotainment system. These updates often address bugs and improve stability.
  3. Check Fuses: A loose or failing fuse in the infotainment circuit could cause intermittent power loss. Locate the fuse box (usually under the hood or in the passenger footwell) and check the fuse labeled for the audio/infotainment system. Replace if necessary.
  4. Connectivity Issues: If the problem primarily occurs when using Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, try different USB cables (always use OEM or MFi certified cables) or test with a different phone to rule out phone-specific issues.
  5. Module Malfunction: The head unit itself, or a related control module, could be failing. Overheating can also cause intermittent issues.

When to See a Shop: If a soft reset or fuse check doesn't resolve the problem, or if the issue is persistent and severe, it's time to visit an Infiniti dealership. They have specialized diagnostic tools that can communicate directly with the infotainment system and other related modules. They can identify specific error codes (though infotainment issues don't always trigger standard OBD-II codes) and determine if a hardware replacement (like the head unit) or a more complex software reflash is required. Mentioning when the issue occurs (e.g., after starting, during navigation, with phone connected) can help them diagnose it faster.
