Vehicle: 2021 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon

Hi all,

I'm pretty frustrated with my 2021 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon. I've been noticing water leaking into the cabin, especially after heavy rain or going through a car wash. I'm finding puddles on the floor mats, particularly on the passenger side, and sometimes even drips from the headliner near the A-pillar.

I love my Gladiator, but this is a major issue. I've tried to check the freedom panels and door seals myself, but I can't pinpoint the exact source. Is this a common problem with the Gladiator, similar to Wranglers? Are there any specific areas I should focus on, or known TSBs for water leaks on the 2021 model?

Any tips on how to diagnose this or what to tell the dealership would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Water leaks into the cabin are unfortunately a common complaint among owners of Jeep Wranglers and Gladiators, given their removable tops and doors. Pinpointing the exact source can be challenging, but there are several usual suspects.

  1. Common Leak Points:

    • Freedom Panels: The removable hardtop panels are a primary source. The seals around these panels can degrade, shift, or be improperly seated. The latches might also need adjustment.
    • Door Seals: The weatherstripping around the doors can become compromised, allowing water to seep in, often near the top corners or along the A-pillar.
    • Cowl/Windshield Area: Water can sometimes enter through the cowl area (where the windshield wipers are) or around the windshield seal itself, especially if it's been replaced.
    • Rear Window/Soft Top (if applicable): If you have a soft top or a sliding rear window, these areas can also be sources of leaks.
  2. Diagnostic Steps (DIY & Professional):

    • Water Test (DIY): Use a garden hose (not a pressure washer) to systematically spray different areas of the vehicle while someone sits inside to observe. Start with the freedom panels, then move to the door seams, A-pillars, and windshield. This can help isolate the leak.
    • Check Panel Alignment: Ensure your freedom panels are properly aligned and latched down tightly. Sometimes, simply unlatching and re-latching them can help.
    • Inspect Seals: Visually inspect all rubber seals for cracks, tears, or signs of compression set. You can try applying a silicone-based lubricant to rejuvenate the seals.
  3. When to See a Shop:

    • Persistent Leaks: If you can't identify or fix the leak yourself, or if it's a significant amount of water, it's crucial to take it to a Jeep dealership.
    • Warranty Coverage: Your 2021 Gladiator is well within its 3-year/36,000-mile basic limited warranty. Water leaks are typically covered under this warranty, provided they are not due to external damage or aftermarket modifications.
    • Dealership Expertise: Dealerships have specialized tools and experience with these common Jeep leaks. They can perform more thorough water tests and have access to any relevant Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) that might outline specific fixes or updated parts for known leak issues on the Gladiator.
