2018 Grand Cherokee Shifting Rough - Transmission Fluid Change?

Hey everyone, I've got a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with about 75,000 miles on it. Lately, I've noticed some hesitation and a bit of rough shifting, especially between 2nd and 3rd gear. It's not constant, but definitely noticeable.

I'm wondering if it's time for a transmission fluid change. The owner's manual seems a bit vague on the exact interval for 'normal' driving conditions, and with this mileage, I'm starting to worry.

Has anyone else experienced this with their WK2 Grand Cherokee? Is this something I can tackle myself, or is it best left to a professional? What type of fluid should I be looking for?

  1. Confirm the symptom — note when it happens (cold start, highway, after fuel fill, etc.).
  2. Scan codes — save all pending/stored DTCs; don't clear until you've recorded them.
  3. Check TSBs & recalls — look up your VIN for open campaigns and known fixes.
  4. Inspect the obvious — related fuses, connectors, fluid level, and recent repairs.
  5. Test the common fix — follow model-specific service procedures; one change at a time.
  6. Escalate if needed — burning smell, no brakes, overheating, or stalling in traffic → shop visit.
