Hey everyone,

My 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited has been having major issues with the Uconnect system lately. It freezes constantly, sometimes the screen goes completely black, and Apple CarPlay disconnects randomly, especially when I'm using navigation. It's super frustrating, especially on long drives or when I need directions.

I've tried the soft reset by holding down the volume and tuner buttons for about 10-15 seconds, and it seems to help for a little while, but the problems always come back. I've also checked for any available software updates through the Uconnect website, but it says I'm up to date. Has anyone else experienced this with their Grand Cherokee? Any tips or tricks before I take it to the dealership?

Summary: For 2018 Grand Cherokee Uconnect Freezing & CarPlay Issues, work through these steps on your 2016+ vehicle:

  1. Confirm the symptom — note when it happens (cold start, highway, after fuel fill, etc.).
  2. Scan codes — save all pending/stored DTCs; don't clear until you've recorded them.
  3. Check TSBs & recalls — look up your VIN for open campaigns and known fixes.
  4. Inspect the obvious — related fuses, connectors, fluid level, and recent repairs.
  5. Test the common fix — follow model-specific service procedures; one change at a time.
  6. Escalate if needed — burning smell, no brakes, overheating, or stalling in traffic → shop visit.
