Vehicle: 2022 Kia K5 GT-Line

Hi everyone, I'm having some persistent issues with the infotainment system in my 2022 Kia K5 GT-Line. It's the larger 10.25-inch screen.

The main problem is that the system frequently freezes up, sometimes becoming completely unresponsive for a minute or two before it either restarts itself or I have to manually turn the car off and on. Also, my Apple CarPlay connection (wireless) constantly drops out. It'll work fine for 5-10 minutes, then disconnect, and sometimes it won't reconnect unless I restart the car or delete and re-pair my phone.

I've tried resetting the system via the small pinhole button, but the issues keep coming back. Is this a common bug with this infotainment unit? Are there any software updates or TSBs that address these kinds of glitches? It's really frustrating when I rely on navigation and music.

Infotainment system glitches, including freezing and connectivity issues with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, are common complaints across many modern vehicles, and the 2022 Kia K5 is not immune. These problems are often software-related but can sometimes point to hardware issues.

  1. Causes: The most frequent causes are outdated software/firmware in the head unit, conflicts with phone operating system updates, or, less commonly, a faulty infotainment module or USB port (if using wired CarPlay/Android Auto). Wireless connectivity can also be affected by interference or weak Wi-Fi/Bluetooth signals.
  2. Symptoms to watch for: Beyond freezing and disconnections, look for slow response times, incorrect display information, or features failing to load. Note if the issues occur more frequently with specific apps or under certain conditions.
  3. TSBs and Software Updates: Kia regularly releases software updates for their infotainment systems to address bugs and improve stability and connectivity. There are likely TSBs related to these issues for the 2022 K5. These updates are typically installed by the dealership or, for some systems, can be downloaded and installed via USB from the Kia Owners portal.
  4. When to see a shop: You should schedule an appointment with your Kia dealership. Clearly explain the issues you're experiencing, including the frequency and any specific triggers. Request that they check for and apply the latest infotainment system software updates. They will also check for diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) related to the infotainment module. If software updates don't resolve the problem, they may need to diagnose for a faulty head unit or related wiring. Since your K5 is a 2022 model, it's well within its warranty period, so any necessary repairs or updates should be covered.
