2018 Sorento Transmission Fluid Change Interval - DIY or Shop?

Hey everyone, I've got a 2018 Kia Sorento SX with about 75,000 miles on it. I'm wondering about the transmission fluid. The owner's manual seems a bit vague on when to change it, especially for 'severe' driving conditions, which I might fall under with a lot of stop-and-go traffic.

I've heard different opinions – some say it's 'lifetime' fluid, others recommend changing it every 60k. I'm pretty handy with a wrench, but I've never tackled a transmission fluid change before. Is this something a DIYer can reasonably do, or is it best left to a professional shop? I'm worried about using the wrong fluid or not getting it filled correctly. Any advice on the process or recommended fluid type would be great!

Summary: For 2018 Sorento Transmission Fluid Change Interval - DIY or Shop?, work through these steps on your 2016+ vehicle:

  1. Confirm the symptom — note when it happens (cold start, highway, after fuel fill, etc.).
  2. Scan codes — save all pending/stored DTCs; don't clear until you've recorded them.
  3. Check TSBs & recalls — look up your VIN for open campaigns and known fixes.
  4. Inspect the obvious — related fuses, connectors, fluid level, and recent repairs.
  5. Test the common fix — follow model-specific service procedures; one change at a time.
  6. Escalate if needed — burning smell, no brakes, overheating, or stalling in traffic → shop visit.
