2018 Sorento V6 Transmission Fluid Change - DIY or Dealer Only?

Hey everyone,

I've got a 2018 Kia Sorento EX with the 3.3L V6 engine, and it's approaching 60,000 miles. I'm wondering about the transmission fluid. The owner's manual mentions 'inspect' but doesn't give a clear change interval for normal driving conditions, only for severe usage.

Has anyone with a similar Sorento done a DIY transmission fluid drain and fill? What type of fluid did you use, and was it a straightforward process? I'm trying to decide if this is something I can tackle myself or if it's better left to the dealership.

Summary: For 2018 Sorento V6 Transmission Fluid Change - DIY or Dealer Only?, work through these steps on your 2016+ vehicle:

  1. Confirm the symptom — note when it happens (cold start, highway, after fuel fill, etc.).
  2. Scan codes — save all pending/stored DTCs; don't clear until you've recorded them.
  3. Check TSBs & recalls — look up your VIN for open campaigns and known fixes.
  4. Inspect the obvious — related fuses, connectors, fluid level, and recent repairs.
  5. Test the common fix — follow model-specific service procedures; one change at a time.
  6. Escalate if needed — burning smell, no brakes, overheating, or stalling in traffic → shop visit.
