Vehicle: 2022 Kia Telluride SX-P

Hey everyone,

I'm having some frustrating issues with the infotainment system in my 2022 Kia Telluride SX-P. It frequently freezes up, especially when I'm using Apple CarPlay. The screen will become unresponsive, and sometimes the whole system just reboots itself while I'm driving.

When CarPlay is working, it often disconnects randomly, forcing me to unplug and replug my phone multiple times. This is really annoying, especially on longer trips. I've tried different cables and even different phones, but the problem persists. The vehicle has about 30,000 miles on it.

Has anyone with a newer Telluride or other Kia models experienced these kinds of infotainment glitches? Is this a known software bug, or could it be a hardware issue? Any tips or solutions would be greatly appreciated!

Infotainment system glitches, freezing, and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto disconnections are not uncommon in modern vehicles, including your 2022 Kia Telluride. These issues are often software-related but can sometimes point to hardware problems within the head unit or related modules.

Here's what you should consider and do:

  1. Software Updates:
    • Most Likely Cause: Kia frequently releases software updates for their infotainment systems to address bugs, improve performance, and enhance connectivity. This is the most common fix for these types of issues.
    • How to Check: You can often check for updates via the Kia UVO/Connect app, the vehicle's infotainment system settings, or by visiting a Kia dealership. Dealerships have access to the latest firmware and can perform the update.
  2. System Reset:
    • Soft Reset: Many Kia infotainment systems have a small reset button (often a tiny pinhole) that can be pressed with a paperclip. This can resolve temporary glitches without losing settings.
    • Factory Reset: You can usually perform a factory reset through the system settings. Be aware this will erase all personal data, paired devices, and custom settings.
  3. USB Port Inspection:
    • Physical Damage: Inspect the USB port used for CarPlay/Android Auto for any debris, bent pins, or loose connections. A faulty port can cause intermittent connectivity.
    • Cable Quality: While you've tried different cables, ensure they are high-quality, data-transfer capable cables (not just charging cables) from reputable brands. Cheap or damaged cables are a frequent culprit.
  4. Phone Software: Ensure your smartphone's operating system (iOS or Android) is fully updated. Sometimes, compatibility issues arise with older phone software.
  5. Hardware Failure: If software updates and resets don't resolve the issue, it could indicate a failing head unit or related communication module. While less common, these components can develop faults. There are typically no standard OBD-II codes for infotainment issues, but a dealership's diagnostic tool can read specific U-codes (network communication) or B-codes (body electrical) related to the infotainment system.

When to See a Shop: If software updates, system resets, and cable checks don't fix the problem, you should schedule an appointment with your Kia dealership. Since your Telluride is a 2022 model, it's likely still under warranty, and any hardware replacement would be covered. Be prepared to demonstrate the issue to the service technician, as intermittent problems can sometimes be difficult to diagnose.
