2020 Discovery Sport Misfire & Rough Idle - CEL On

Hey everyone,

I'm having a really frustrating issue with my 2020 Land Rover Discovery Sport HSE. Lately, the engine has developed a really rough idle, almost like it's shaking, especially when I'm stopped at a light. It feels like it's struggling to stay smooth.

To make things worse, the Check Engine Light came on yesterday and has been staying solid. I'm worried this could be something serious. Has anyone experienced this with their Discovery Sport or similar Land Rover models? What are the common culprits for a rough idle and a CEL on these vehicles? Any advice on what I should check first before taking it to the dealer would be greatly appreciated!

Summary: For 2020 Discovery Sport Misfire & Rough Idle - CEL On, work through these steps on your 2016+ vehicle:

  1. Confirm the symptom — note when it happens (cold start, highway, after fuel fill, etc.).
  2. Scan codes — save all pending/stored DTCs; don't clear until you've recorded them.
  3. Check TSBs & recalls — look up your VIN for open campaigns and known fixes.
  4. Inspect the obvious — related fuses, connectors, fluid level, and recent repairs.
  5. Test the common fix — follow model-specific service procedures; one change at a time.
  6. Escalate if needed — burning smell, no brakes, overheating, or stalling in traffic → shop visit.
