Vehicle: 2020 Land Rover Discovery HSE Luxury

Hi all, I'm having a frustrating problem with the infotainment system in my 2020 Land Rover Discovery HSE Luxury. The screen frequently freezes, becomes unresponsive, and Apple CarPlay disconnects randomly or just won't connect at all. Sometimes a full restart of the car fixes it temporarily, but it always comes back.

It's really annoying, especially on longer drives when I rely on navigation and music. Has anyone else with a 2020 Discovery experienced these kinds of glitches? Is there a known software update or a hard reset procedure I can try myself before taking it to the dealer?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Infotainment glitches are a common complaint across many modern vehicles, including the 2020 Land Rover Discovery. Here's what you should consider:

  1. Initial Troubleshooting Steps:

    • Soft Reset: Try a soft reset of the infotainment system. This is often done by holding down the power button (usually the volume knob) for 10-20 seconds until the screen goes black and reboots. This can clear temporary software bugs.
    • Check Phone & Cable: Ensure your iPhone's iOS is up to date and try a different, high-quality Apple-certified USB cable. Faulty cables are a frequent cause of CarPlay issues.
    • Forget Device: On your iPhone, go to Settings > General > CarPlay, select your car, and choose "Forget This Car." Then try reconnecting.
    • Vehicle Software Update: Land Rover frequently releases software updates for their infotainment systems (Pivi Pro or InControl Touch Pro, depending on exact build). These updates often address bugs and improve stability.
  2. When to See a Shop:

    • Persistent Issues: If the soft reset, cable swap, and phone troubleshooting don't resolve the problem, or if the freezing is constant, it's time for a dealer visit.
    • Diagnostic & Update: The dealership will have specialized tools to check for specific fault codes within the infotainment module. They can also perform a comprehensive software update that might not be available over-the-air or through simple user actions.
    • Hardware Inspection: In some cases, persistent issues can point to a failing infotainment control module or screen hardware, which would require replacement. They can also check for any TSBs (Technical Service Bulletins) related to these specific symptoms for your model year.
