Vehicle: 2018 Range Rover Sport HSE

Hey everyone,

I'm having a really frustrating issue with my 2018 Range Rover Sport HSE. Lately, I've been getting a 'Suspension Fault' message on the dash, and the vehicle just isn't leveling properly. It seems to be sitting lower on one side, especially after being parked overnight.

When I try to adjust the height, it either doesn't respond or takes a very long time, sometimes failing completely. I've noticed the compressor seems to be running more often and louder than usual, but it doesn't always achieve the desired height.

Has anyone experienced this with their Range Rover Sport? I'm worried about driving it like this. Any ideas on what might be causing it or what I should check before taking it to the dealer? Thanks in advance!

It sounds like you're dealing with a common air suspension issue on your 2018 Range Rover Sport HSE. The symptoms you describe – 'Suspension Fault' message, uneven leveling, and an overworked compressor – strongly point to a problem within the air suspension system.

Here are the likely causes and steps to consider:

  1. Air Leakage:

    • Cause: The most frequent culprit is a leak in one or more air springs (struts), air lines, or the valve block. A leak causes the system to lose pressure, leading to uneven ride height and the compressor working overtime to compensate.
    • Diagnostics: A common OBD-II code associated with air suspension issues, especially compressor over-activity due to leaks, can be C1A00-1A (Compressor circuit - General electrical failure) or C1A20-64 (Pressure sensor - Signal plausibility failure) if the system struggles to maintain pressure.
    • What to check: Visually inspect the air springs for cracks or tears, especially around the bellows. You can also spray a soapy water solution on the air springs and connections to look for bubbles.
  2. Air Suspension Compressor Failure:

    • Cause: Constant overworking due to a leak or simply age can lead to the compressor wearing out. It might still run but fail to generate sufficient pressure, or it could seize completely.
    • Symptoms: Loud operation, slow or no height adjustment, and the vehicle remaining at an incorrect height.
  3. Air Suspension Valve Block Malfunction:

    • Cause: The valve block directs air to and from the individual air springs. If it's faulty, it might not properly seal or distribute air, leading to uneven leveling.
  4. Height Sensor Issues:

    • Cause: While less common for uneven leveling unless a specific sensor fails, faulty height sensors can send incorrect signals to the air suspension control module, causing incorrect adjustments.

When to see a shop: Given the complexity and safety implications of suspension systems, it's highly recommended to have your Range Rover Sport inspected by a qualified Land Rover specialist or dealership as soon as possible. Driving with a compromised suspension can affect handling, braking, and tire wear. They have specialized diagnostic tools to pinpoint the exact fault, whether it's a leak, a failing compressor, or a sensor issue, and can perform the necessary repairs or replacements safely.
