Vehicle: 2018 Lexus RX 350 F Sport

Hey everyone, I'm having some frustrating issues with my 2018 Lexus RX 350 F Sport. Lately, the infotainment system has been acting up – freezing, slow to respond, and sometimes just restarting itself while driving. It's really annoying, especially when I'm using navigation.

On top of that, I've noticed a parasitic battery drain. If I leave the car for more than a couple of days, the battery is completely dead. I've had to jump it multiple times. I suspect it might be related to the infotainment system not fully shutting down, but I'm not sure.

Has anyone else experienced similar problems with their 2018 RX 350? What was the fix? I'm trying to gather some info before I take it to the dealership.

It sounds like you're dealing with a couple of common, albeit frustrating, issues that can affect the 2018 Lexus RX 350's electrical system and infotainment. Here's a breakdown and what you should consider:

  1. Infotainment System Glitches:

    • Causes: Software bugs, corrupt system files, or a failing head unit. Sometimes, a simple system reset can temporarily resolve minor glitches. Ensure your vehicle's software is up to date; Lexus periodically releases updates that address these issues.
    • When to See a Shop: If a manual reset (often done by holding down the power button for 10-15 seconds) doesn't work, or if the problem is persistent, a dealership visit is necessary. They can perform a diagnostic scan, check for Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) related to infotainment, and update the firmware or replace the head unit if needed.
  2. Parasitic Battery Drain:

    • Causes: This is often linked to modules that aren't properly shutting down, such as the infotainment system, a faulty accessory, or even a door switch. The infotainment system is a prime suspect if it's not entering a low-power state.
    • Diagnostics: A shop will perform a parasitic draw test, which involves measuring current draw with the vehicle off and all systems asleep. They'll then pull fuses one by one to isolate the circuit causing the draw. If the infotainment system is the culprit, it might be due to an internal fault or a software issue preventing it from powering down correctly.
    • When to See a Shop: A persistent battery drain needs professional diagnosis. Driving with a constantly drained battery can shorten its lifespan and even damage other electrical components. Mention both issues together, as they could be related to a single electrical fault or software problem.
