Vehicle: 2021 Lexus NX 300 F Sport

Hi everyone, I'm a bit concerned about the headlights on my 2021 Lexus NX 300 F Sport. I've noticed significant condensation inside the driver's side headlight assembly after washing the car or after heavy rain. It takes a long time to clear up, and sometimes there are actual water droplets visible. This doesn't happen on the passenger side.

Also, recently, the LED Daytime Running Light (DRL) on that same driver's side headlight has started to flicker intermittently, especially when it's cold. Is this a common issue with the NX, or could the condensation be related to the DRL problem? I'm worried about long-term damage or electrical shorts. The car is still under warranty, but I want to be informed before I take it to the dealer.

Headlight condensation and DRL flickering on a 2021 Lexus NX 300 F Sport are issues that should be addressed promptly, especially since the vehicle is still under warranty. While minor fogging can sometimes be normal, significant water droplets and persistent condensation, particularly on only one side, indicate a problem. The DRL flickering is also a clear sign of an electrical fault.

  1. Excessive Condensation: Headlight assemblies are designed to be sealed, but they also have vents to allow for pressure equalization and minor moisture escape. However, if you're seeing actual water droplets or if the condensation takes a very long time to clear, it suggests a compromised seal. This could be due to a manufacturing defect, damage to the housing, or a faulty gasket around a bulb or access panel. Water ingress can lead to corrosion and failure of internal electrical components.

  2. DRL Module Failure: The flickering DRL is very likely related to the condensation. Water inside the headlight assembly can damage the LED DRL module or its wiring. These modules are sensitive to moisture and can fail prematurely if exposed. This is a known issue for some Lexus models where water ingress can lead to DRL failure. You might not get an OBD-II code for this, but a visual inspection and electrical testing will confirm it.

  3. Warranty Coverage: Since your 2021 NX 300 is still under the factory warranty, both the excessive condensation and the DRL flickering should be covered. Lexus typically covers defects in materials or workmanship. Document the issue with photos or videos, especially showing the water droplets and the flickering DRL.

When to See a Shop: Schedule an appointment with your Lexus dealership immediately. Explain both the condensation and the DRL flickering. They will likely need to inspect the headlight assembly for signs of water intrusion, check the seals, and test the DRL module. In most cases, if a seal is compromised or the DRL module is damaged due to water, the entire headlight assembly will need to be replaced under warranty. Do not attempt to open or repair the headlight yourself, as this could void your warranty.
