Vehicle: 2022 Lexus GX 460 Premium

Hello Lexus community,

I'm experiencing a strange problem with the power windows in my 2022 Lexus GX 460 Premium. Specifically, the driver's side master switch is acting up. Sometimes, I can roll down all the windows from the driver's switch, but then other times, only the driver's window works, or none of them do. It's completely intermittent.

The individual window switches on the passenger doors and rear doors seem to work fine for their respective windows, but the driver's master control loses functionality for them.

This is a relatively new vehicle, so I'm surprised to be having electrical issues already. Has anyone encountered this with their GX 460? Could it be a faulty master switch, a wiring issue, or something else entirely? Any advice is appreciated!

ClearTheCode admin answer:

Intermittent power window issues, especially affecting the master switch on a newer vehicle like your 2022 Lexus GX 460, typically point to a few common electrical culprits.

1. Faulty Driver's Master Power Window Switch:

  • This is the most common cause. The master switch assembly contains multiple switches and a circuit board. Over time, or due to manufacturing defects, internal contacts can wear out or become corroded, leading to intermittent or complete failure for individual window controls or the entire unit. Since individual switches work, but the master doesn't, this is a strong indicator.

2. Wiring Harness Issues:

  • Door Jamb Wiring: The wiring harness that passes through the door jamb (between the door and the body) is constantly flexed when the door opens and closes. Wires can fray, break, or develop intermittent connections, especially for the power window circuits. This can be challenging to diagnose without physically inspecting the harness.
  • Loose Connections: Connections to the master switch or within the door panel could be loose or corroded, causing intermittent power or signal loss.

3. Window Motor/Regulator Assembly (Less Likely for Master Switch Issue):

  • While a faulty window motor or regulator assembly would affect only one window, it's less likely to cause the master switch to fail for multiple windows. However, if the driver's window is the only one consistently failing from the master switch, a motor issue could be a secondary consideration.

When to See a Shop: Given that your GX 460 is a 2022 model, it is almost certainly still under the factory warranty. This is the ideal time to take it to a Lexus dealership. They will be able to:

  • Perform Diagnostic Scans: Check for any stored body control module (BCM) or door control module (DCM) diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) related to window operation. (e.g., B1241 for driver's door switch circuit malfunction).
  • Test Master Switch: Use specialized tools to test the functionality of each switch within the master assembly.
  • Inspect Wiring: Visually inspect and test the continuity of the wiring harness in the door jamb and within the door panel.
  • Warranty Repair: If a faulty master switch or wiring is identified, it should be covered under your vehicle's warranty.
