Vehicle: 2022 Lexus IS 300 F Sport

Hey everyone,

I've got a 2022 Lexus IS 300 F Sport with about 25,000 miles, and this morning, the ABS, Traction Control, and VSC (Vehicle Stability Control) lights all came on simultaneously on the dash. The car seems to be driving fine, but I'm worried about the safety systems being disabled.

I tried turning the car off and on again, but the lights stayed on. I haven't hit any major potholes or had any recent work done on the car. Has anyone experienced this with their newer IS 300? What's the typical cause for all these lights to illuminate at once?

Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

When the ABS, Traction Control, and VSC lights illuminate simultaneously on your 2022 Lexus IS 300, it almost always indicates a fault within the anti-lock braking system (ABS) or a related sensor. These systems are interconnected, so a problem with one often triggers warnings for the others. Here’s a breakdown of common causes and diagnostic steps:

  1. Wheel Speed Sensor Malfunction: This is the most frequent cause. Each wheel has a sensor that monitors its rotational speed. If one sensor fails or its wiring is damaged, the ABS module loses crucial data, disabling the related safety systems. Common OBD-II codes for this issue include:
    • C0031 (Front Left Wheel Speed Sensor Circuit Malfunction)
    • C0034 (Front Right Wheel Speed Sensor Circuit Malfunction)
    • C0037 (Rear Left Wheel Speed Sensor Circuit Malfunction)
    • C0040 (Rear Right Wheel Speed Sensor Circuit Malfunction)
  2. Damaged ABS Tone Ring: The tone ring (or reluctor ring) is a toothed wheel that the wheel speed sensor reads. If it gets damaged, corroded, or accumulates debris, the sensor can't get an accurate reading.
  3. ABS Module Failure: While less common, the ABS control module itself can fail. This is typically a more expensive repair and might present with various communication or internal fault codes.
  4. Wiring Issues: Damaged or corroded wiring to any of the wheel speed sensors or the ABS module can also cause these lights to appear.

When to See a Shop: It's highly recommended to take your Lexus IS 300 to a professional mechanic or dealership for diagnosis. They have specialized diagnostic tools that can read the specific ABS/VSC fault codes, which are often different from standard engine codes. Driving with these lights on means your ABS, Traction Control, and VSC systems are likely disabled, which can significantly impact your vehicle's safety and handling, especially in emergency braking or slippery conditions. A technician can accurately pinpoint the faulty component and ensure proper repair.
