Vehicle: 2024 Lexus GX 460 Premium

Hello everyone,

I recently bought a new 2024 Lexus GX 460 Premium, and I'm already having an issue with the headlights. The driver's side LED headlight has started flickering intermittently, especially when I first turn the car on or hit a bump. Also, I've noticed that the auto-leveling feature seems to be acting up; sometimes one light points lower than the other, and it doesn't always correct itself.

It's a brand new car, so I'm pretty disappointed. I checked the bulbs (though they're LEDs, so not really 'bulbs' to replace), and everything looks physically fine. Could this be a wiring issue, or maybe a sensor for the auto-leveling system? Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

It's certainly frustrating to experience electrical issues with a brand new vehicle like your 2024 Lexus GX 460. Headlight flickering and auto-leveling problems often indicate an issue with the LED driver module, wiring, or the leveling sensors.

Diagnostics & Next Steps:

  1. Check for DTCs: While not always visible on the dashboard, a professional scan tool can often pull codes related to lighting modules or leveling sensors. Look for codes like:
    • B24xx series: Related to lighting system malfunctions.
    • C15xx series: Related to suspension or leveling sensor issues.
  2. Visual Inspection:
    • Carefully inspect the wiring harness leading to the flickering headlight for any signs of pinching, fraying, or loose connections.
    • Check the connections at the back of the headlight assembly.
  3. Observe Conditions: Note when the flickering occurs most often (e.g., only when cold, over bumps, specific electrical loads). This can help narrow down the cause.

Common Causes:

  • Faulty LED Driver Module: Modern LED headlights use a separate driver module to regulate power. If this module is defective, it can cause flickering or complete failure.
  • Loose or Corroded Wiring: Even in a new car, a poorly seated connector or a minor manufacturing defect in the wiring harness can lead to intermittent contact and flickering.
  • Headlight Leveling Sensor Issue: The auto-leveling system relies on sensors (usually on the suspension) to detect vehicle pitch. A faulty sensor, its wiring, or the leveling motor within the headlight assembly can cause incorrect aiming.
  • Internal Headlight Assembly Fault: Less common, but there could be an internal defect within the sealed LED headlight unit itself.

When to See a Shop:

Given that your 2024 Lexus GX 460 is brand new, this issue should be covered under your factory warranty. Do not attempt extensive DIY repairs, as this could void your warranty. Schedule an appointment with your Lexus dealership immediately. They have the specialized diagnostic equipment to pinpoint the exact cause of the flickering and leveling issues and can replace the faulty components (e.g., LED driver, wiring harness, or the entire headlight assembly) under warranty.
