Vehicle: 2021 Lexus LS 500 F Sport

Hi everyone,

I'm experiencing an issue with my 2021 Lexus LS 500 F Sport that's really bothering me. I've noticed that the car tends to pull slightly to the right when I'm driving straight, and I have to constantly correct the steering. On top of that, I recently checked my tires and saw that the front right tire is showing significantly more wear on the outer edge compared to the other tires.

The car has about 35,000 miles on it, and I haven't hit any major potholes or had any accidents. I'm thinking it's an alignment issue, but could it be something more serious with the suspension components? I want to get this fixed before it ruins my new tires.

Any insights from other LS 500 owners?

Uneven tire wear and a vehicle pulling to one side are classic indicators of an alignment problem or worn suspension components. Addressing this promptly is crucial for safety, tire longevity, and driving comfort.

  1. Common Causes:

    • Wheel Alignment Issues: This is the most common cause. If the camber, caster, or toe angles are out of specification, it will cause the vehicle to pull and lead to uneven tire wear. Hitting curbs or potholes can knock alignment out.
    • Worn Suspension Components: Components like control arm bushings, ball joints, or tie rod ends can wear out, introducing play in the suspension. This play prevents the wheels from holding their proper alignment, leading to pulling and uneven wear.
    • Tire Issues: While less likely to cause a pull and specific uneven wear on one tire, a damaged tire (e.g., internal belt separation) or incorrect tire pressure can contribute.
    • Brake Drag: A caliper that isn't fully releasing on one side can cause a slight drag, leading to a pull and potentially uneven wear, though this usually comes with heat or smell.
  2. Diagnostics:

    • A professional alignment shop will perform a four-wheel alignment check, which measures all the angles. This will immediately show if alignment is the primary issue.
    • During the alignment check, the technician should also inspect all suspension components for wear or damage. They will look for torn bushings, loose ball joints, or bent parts.
  3. When to See a Shop:

    • You should schedule an appointment for a full suspension inspection and wheel alignment immediately. Driving with these symptoms will rapidly accelerate tire wear, costing you more in the long run.
    • More importantly, worn suspension components can compromise steering precision and vehicle stability, especially during emergency maneuvers. A professional can identify if it's a simple alignment fix or if worn parts need replacement before an alignment can be performed correctly.
