Hey everyone, I've got a 2020 Lincoln Aviator Reserve with the 3.0L twin-turbo. I'm approaching 60,000 miles and was wondering about the coolant system.

What's the recommended interval for a full coolant flush and replacement on these models? I want to make sure I'm following the correct maintenance schedule to keep everything running smoothly.

Also, what specific type of coolant should I be using? I've heard different things about orange vs. yellow coolants and want to make sure I get the right one for my Aviator. Mixing coolants can be a real problem, so I want to avoid any mistakes.

Is this something a reasonably handy DIYer can tackle, or is it better left to the dealership? I've noticed the temperature gauge seems to fluctuate a tiny bit more than it used to, but no warning lights yet. Just trying to stay on top of maintenance before it becomes an issue.

Summary: For 2020 Aviator Coolant Flush & Type Question, work through these steps on your 2016+ vehicle:

  1. Confirm the symptom — note when it happens (cold start, highway, after fuel fill, etc.).
  2. Scan codes — save all pending/stored DTCs; don't clear until you've recorded them.
  3. Check TSBs & recalls — look up your VIN for open campaigns and known fixes.
  4. Inspect the obvious — related fuses, connectors, fluid level, and recent repairs.
  5. Test the common fix — follow model-specific service procedures; one change at a time.
  6. Escalate if needed — burning smell, no brakes, overheating, or stalling in traffic → shop visit.
