Vehicle: 2021 Lincoln Aviator Grand Touring

Hi all,

I'm having an issue with my 2021 Lincoln Aviator Grand Touring. It consistently pulls to the right, even on flat roads. I recently had the tires rotated, and the problem persists, so I don't think it's just tire wear.

The steering also feels a bit looser than it used to, and I have to constantly correct it to keep the car going straight. I'm wondering if this is a simple alignment issue or if it could be something more serious with the suspension or steering components.

Any thoughts on what could be causing this? Thanks in advance!

A consistent pull to one side and a loose steering feel in your 2021 Lincoln Aviator can be caused by several factors, ranging from simple adjustments to more significant component wear. It's crucial to diagnose this accurately for safe driving.

Here are the potential causes:

  1. Wheel Alignment Issues: This is the most common cause. Even a slight misalignment can cause the vehicle to pull. A professional alignment shop can measure and correct this.
  2. Worn Suspension Components: Components like ball joints, control arm bushings, or tie rod ends can wear out, leading to excessive play and causing the vehicle to pull or the steering to feel loose.
  3. Uneven Tire Wear or Tire Defect: While you mentioned a rotation, a severely worn or defective tire (e.g., a separated belt) can still cause a pull. Check tire pressures on all four tires.
  4. Brake Drag: A caliper that isn't fully releasing can cause one wheel to drag, leading to a pull. This might also manifest as a burning smell or excessive heat from that wheel.
  5. Power Steering System Issues: For electric power steering (EPS) systems, a fault in the EPS module or sensor could potentially cause erratic steering. This might trigger OBD codes like C0051 (Steering Angle Sensor Malfunction) or U0415 (Invalid Data Received from ABS Control Module) if related to steering assist.

When to See a Shop:

  • Schedule a professional alignment immediately. They will also inspect suspension components during the process.
  • If the alignment doesn't resolve the issue, or if significant wear is found, further diagnosis of suspension and steering components will be necessary.
