2017 MKX Rough Shifting and Hesitation - Is this a known issue?

Hey everyone,

I've got a 2017 Lincoln MKX Reserve with about 75,000 miles, and lately, the transmission has been acting up. I'm experiencing some pretty rough shifts, especially from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd gear. It also seems to hesitate a bit when accelerating from a stop.

I'm worried this might be a bigger problem. Has anyone else with a 2017 MKX or similar model experienced this? Are there any known TSBs or recalls related to transmission issues for this year? I want to be prepared before I take it to a shop. Thanks for any advice!

Summary: For 2017 MKX Rough Shifting and Hesitation - Is this a known issue?, work through these steps on your 2015+ vehicle:

  1. Confirm the symptom — note when it happens (cold start, highway, after fuel fill, etc.).
  2. Scan codes — save all pending/stored DTCs; don't clear until you've recorded them.
  3. Check TSBs & recalls — look up your VIN for open campaigns and known fixes.
  4. Inspect the obvious — related fuses, connectors, fluid level, and recent repairs.
  5. Test the common fix — follow model-specific service procedures; one change at a time.
  6. Escalate if needed — burning smell, no brakes, overheating, or stalling in traffic → shop visit.
