Vehicle: 2022 Lucid Air Dream Edition

My 2022 Lucid Air Dream Edition, with about 35,000 miles, has recently started showing a noticeable drop in its estimated range. I used to consistently get over 450 miles on a full charge, but now it's struggling to hit 400, even with careful driving.

I've also noticed that charging, especially at DC fast chargers, seems slower than it used to be. It takes longer to reach 80%, and the peak charging rates seem lower. I'm concerned about the battery's health.

Is this normal degradation for a 2-year-old EV, or could there be a deeper issue? I've checked the charging settings and they seem fine. Any other Dream Edition owners experiencing this?

Range loss and slower charging can be concerning, but it's important to understand the potential causes.

  1. Normal Battery Degradation: All EV batteries experience some degradation over time and mileage. A 2-year-old vehicle with 35,000 miles might see a slight reduction in usable capacity. However, a drop from 450 to under 400 miles might be more significant than typical. Factors like frequent DC fast charging and extreme temperatures can accelerate this.
  2. Software Optimization: Lucid frequently releases over-the-air (OTA) updates that can optimize battery management and charging algorithms. Ensure your vehicle's software is up to date, as this can sometimes improve range estimates and charging efficiency.
  3. Battery Conditioning: The vehicle's battery management system (BMS) works best when the battery is regularly exercised. Try to avoid consistently charging to 100% or letting it drop below 20% if possible. Periodically, a full charge and discharge cycle (within recommended limits) can help the BMS recalibrate.

When to see a shop: If the range loss is sudden, severe, or accompanied by any warning lights on the dashboard (e.g., a 'Check EV System' light), it's crucial to have it inspected by a Lucid service center. They can perform a detailed battery health diagnostic. While there isn't a single OBD code for 'degradation,' specific cell imbalances or cooling system issues could trigger codes like P0AA6 (Hybrid Battery Voltage System Isolation Fault) or P0AA7 (Hybrid Battery Pack Voltage Sense Circuit) if a more serious internal fault is present. Early diagnosis can prevent further issues and ensure your battery warranty is maintained.
