Vehicle: 2022 Lucid Air Grand Touring

Hey everyone,

I've been having a frustrating issue with my 2022 Lucid Air Grand Touring. Lately, when I try to plug in at public charging stations or even my home Level 2 charger, the charging port doesn't seem to lock the cable securely. I'll plug it in, hear a click, but then with a slight tug, the cable comes right out. This is a major concern, especially when I'm trying to charge overnight or at a busy public station.

It's intermittent, but it's happening more frequently now. I've tried different cables and different chargers, thinking it might be the cable, but the problem persists with the car itself. Has anyone else experienced this with their Lucid Air? Is there a known fix or something I should be checking?

I'm worried about the reliability of charging, and it's making me hesitant to rely on public infrastructure for longer trips. Any advice or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated before I schedule a service appointment.

It sounds like you're experiencing an issue with the charging port's locking mechanism on your 2022 Lucid Air Grand Touring, which is definitely a critical concern for EV ownership. This problem can stem from a few different causes, ranging from minor glitches to a component failure.

Potential Causes:

  1. Software Glitch: The vehicle's charging control module might be experiencing a temporary software error preventing the locking pin from engaging correctly.
  2. Physical Obstruction: Debris (dust, small pebbles, etc.) could be lodged in the charging port or around the locking pin, preventing it from fully extending.
  3. Actuator Failure: The electromechanical actuator responsible for engaging and disengaging the locking pin might be faulty or failing.
  4. Communication Error: Less likely, but an issue with the car's communication with the charging station could sometimes prevent the lock from engaging as a safety measure.

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Vehicle Soft Reset: Try performing a soft reset of your vehicle's infotainment system, and if possible, a full vehicle restart (refer to your owner's manual for the correct procedure). This can sometimes clear minor software bugs.
  2. Inspect the Port: Carefully examine the charging port for any visible debris or damage to the locking pin mechanism. Use a flashlight and avoid inserting anything that could damage the pins.
  3. Try a Different Charger/Cable: While you've done this, ensure you've tried a known good cable and charger, perhaps at a different location, to definitively rule out external factors.
  4. Check for Software Updates: Ensure your Lucid Air's software is up to date. Over-the-air (OTA) updates often include bug fixes for various systems, including charging.

When to See a Shop:

If the issue persists after performing these basic troubleshooting steps, it's highly recommended to schedule a service appointment with Lucid. A technician will have the diagnostic tools to pinpoint whether it's a software issue requiring a deeper reset or reflash, or if the charging port actuator itself needs to be inspected or replaced. Given that this directly impacts your ability to charge and use the vehicle, it's not an issue to delay addressing.
