Vehicle: 2022 Lucid Air Grand Touring

Hey everyone,

I've been experiencing some frustratingly slow DC fast charging speeds with my 2022 Lucid Air Grand Touring lately. When I first got the car, it would consistently hit impressive charging rates, but now it seems to cap out much lower, often dropping significantly after just a few minutes, even at stations rated for 350kW.

I've tried multiple Electrify America and EVgo stations, and the issue persists across different locations and chargers. I've also made sure the battery is preconditioned by setting a DC fast charger as my navigation destination, but it doesn't seem to make a difference. There are no warning lights or error messages on the dashboard, which makes it even more puzzling.

Has anyone else with a 2022 Lucid Air, especially the Grand Touring trim, encountered similar problems? Could this be a software glitch, a battery issue, or something with the charging module? Any advice or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated before I schedule a service appointment.

Slow DC fast charging on your 2022 Lucid Air Grand Touring can be a complex issue, as it involves multiple systems. Here are some steps and potential causes to consider:

  1. Verify Charging Station Performance: While you've tried multiple stations, it's worth cross-referencing with other EV owners at those specific stations or checking recent reviews for charger reliability. Sometimes, a station might be derated or experiencing issues not immediately apparent.
  2. Check Vehicle Software Updates: Ensure your Lucid Air's software is fully up to date. Manufacturers often release updates that optimize charging algorithms, battery management, and overall system efficiency. An outdated firmware could lead to suboptimal charging performance.
  3. Monitor Battery Temperature: While preconditioning helps, extreme ambient temperatures (very hot or very cold) can impact charging speeds as the Battery Management System (BMS) prioritizes battery health. If the battery is too hot or too cold, the charging rate will be throttled. Your vehicle's diagnostics might show battery temperature data.
  4. Inspect Charging Port and Cable: Visually inspect your vehicle's charging port for any debris, damage, or corrosion. Although less common with DC fast charging, a poor connection can sometimes lead to reduced power delivery.

Potential Causes:

  • Battery Management System (BMS) Calibration: The BMS is crucial for monitoring and controlling battery health and charging. A miscalibrated or faulty BMS could be incorrectly reporting battery conditions, leading to premature throttling of charging speeds.
  • Charging Control Module: This module manages the communication between the vehicle and the DC fast charger. A fault here could prevent the car from requesting or receiving the optimal power levels.
  • DC-DC Converter or Onboard Charger Issues: While DC fast charging primarily bypasses the onboard AC charger, internal components related to high-voltage power management could be contributing.
  • Degradation: While less likely for a 2022 model, significant battery degradation can impact charging speeds, though this usually comes with other performance indicators.

When to See a Shop: Since you've already performed basic troubleshooting (multiple chargers, preconditioning) and are not seeing any dashboard warnings, it's highly recommended to schedule a service appointment with a Lucid service center. They have specialized diagnostic tools that can read detailed fault codes (e.g., P0D27 - DC Charging System Fault, or specific manufacturer codes related to BMS or charging module performance) and perform in-depth diagnostics on the high-voltage system. This will help pinpoint whether the issue is with the battery, BMS, charging hardware, or software.
