Vehicle: 2023 Lucid Air Grand Touring

Hey everyone,

I've been having some intermittent issues with my 2023 Lucid Air Grand Touring when charging. Sometimes, it charges significantly slower than expected, especially at public Level 2 stations. Other times, I get a 'Charging Fault' message on the display, and the charging session just stops.

I've tried different charging cables and multiple charging stations, both Level 2 and DC Fast Chargers, but the problem persists. It's not every time, but frequent enough to be concerning. Has anyone else experienced similar charging inconsistencies or error messages with their Lucid Air? What did you do to resolve it?

It's frustrating to plan a trip around charging only to find the car isn't taking a charge properly. Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated!

Experiencing charging faults and slow charging speeds with your 2023 Lucid Air Grand Touring can be frustrating, as it directly impacts the usability of your EV. This issue typically points to a problem within the vehicle's electrical and charging systems. Here's a breakdown of potential causes and steps you can take:

  1. Initial Troubleshooting Steps:

    • Inspect Charging Port: Ensure the charging port on your Lucid Air is clean and free of debris, dust, or moisture. A dirty port can interfere with communication between the vehicle and the charging station.
    • Try a Different Charger/Cable: While you've tried multiple, ensure you've tested with a known good, high-quality charging cable. Sometimes, a faulty cable can cause these issues.
    • Vehicle Restart: Perform a soft reset of your vehicle's infotainment system or a full vehicle restart (refer to your owner's manual for the correct procedure). This can sometimes clear temporary software glitches.
  2. Potential Causes:

    • Software Glitch: The most common cause for intermittent electrical issues in modern EVs is a software bug. An update might be available to address this.
    • Onboard Charger (OBC) Malfunction: The OBC converts AC power from Level 2 chargers into DC power for the battery. A fault here can lead to slow charging or complete failure.
    • Battery Management System (BMS) Issue: The BMS monitors and controls the battery's charging and discharging. A fault in the BMS can incorrectly report battery status or limit charging.
    • Charging Port Assembly: Physical damage or an internal fault within the charging port assembly itself can prevent proper connection or communication.
    • EVSE Communication Error: The vehicle and charging station communicate to negotiate charging parameters. Errors in this communication can lead to charging faults. Potential OBD-II codes related to this include P0D26 (Charging System Malfunction) or P0D27 (EVSE Communication Error).
  3. When to See a Shop: If the issue persists after basic troubleshooting, especially if you're consistently getting 'Charging Fault' messages or experiencing significant range anxiety due to unreliable charging, it's crucial to schedule a service appointment with a Lucid service center. They have specialized diagnostic tools to pinpoint the exact cause. Be sure to mention any specific error messages or OBD codes you might have observed. Ignoring these warnings could potentially lead to further issues with your vehicle's high-voltage system.
