Vehicle: 2023 Lucid Air Grand Touring

Hey everyone,

I'm having a persistent issue with my 2023 Lucid Air Grand Touring and I'm hoping someone here might have some insight. Lately, when I plug it in, especially to a Level 2 charger at home or even some public Level 2 stations, the charging session will randomly stop. It doesn't seem to reach my set charge limit, and sometimes it's just after an hour or two.

The car usually displays a 'Charging System Fault' message on the infotainment screen, and sometimes the Lucid app also sends a notification about the charging interruption. I've tried using different charging cables and even different outlets at home, but the problem keeps coming back.

Has anyone else experienced this with their Lucid Air? Could it be a software glitch, or something more serious with the vehicle's charging system? Any advice on what to check before I bring it into service would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Experiencing unexpected charging interruptions with a 'Charging System Fault' on your 2023 Lucid Air Grand Touring can be frustrating, especially with a new vehicle. This issue points to a problem within the vehicle's electrical and charging electronics. Here are some steps and potential causes:

  1. Verify Charging Equipment: Even though you've tried different cables, ensure your home charging station (EVSE) is functioning correctly. If possible, try charging at a different public Level 2 charger you trust, or even a DC Fast Charger, to see if the issue persists across various charging types and locations. This helps isolate if the problem is with your home setup or the car itself.
  2. Check Vehicle Settings: Double-check your Lucid Air's charging settings. Ensure no scheduled charging times are interfering, and that the charge limit is set appropriately. Sometimes, a software anomaly can cause misinterpretation of these settings.
  3. Perform a Soft Reset: A simple infotainment system reset (often done by holding specific buttons, consult your owner's manual) can sometimes clear minor software glitches affecting communication with the charging system.

Potential Causes:

  • Software Glitch: The most common and often easiest to fix. An update or reset could resolve communication errors between the Battery Management System (BMS) and the Onboard Charger (OBC).
  • Faulty Onboard Charger (OBC): The OBC converts AC power from your home or public Level 2 charger into DC power for the battery. A fault here can lead to charging interruptions. This would typically require a diagnostic scan.
  • Battery Management System (BMS) Sensor Error: The BMS monitors battery health, temperature, and charge status. A faulty sensor could incorrectly report conditions, causing the system to halt charging as a safety measure.
  • Charging Port Issue: Less common, but a physical issue with the charging port or its locking mechanism could disrupt the connection.
  • Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs): A professional scan would likely reveal specific OBD-II codes. Common codes related to EV charging issues might include: P0AA6 (Hybrid Battery Voltage System Isolation Fault), P0D2A (DC Charging Communication Error - though you mentioned Level 2, this indicates general communication faults), or more generic powertrain codes like P0AC4 (Hybrid Powertrain Control Module Requested MIL Illumination) which simply indicates a fault requiring service.

When to See a Shop:

If the issue persists after trying different charging locations and checking your vehicle's settings, it's crucial to schedule an appointment with a Lucid service center. This type of 'Charging System Fault' error, especially when recurring, indicates a potential hardware or more complex software issue that requires specialized diagnostic tools. Continuing to charge with a persistent fault could potentially stress the charging components or battery.
