Vehicle: 2023 Lucid Air Grand Touring

Hey everyone,

I've been experiencing a strange issue with my 2023 Lucid Air Grand Touring lately. A few days ago, I got a 'Reduced Propulsion Power' warning message on the dash. The car felt noticeably sluggish, almost like it was in a limp mode.

On top of that, I've noticed my charging speeds have dropped significantly, both at home on my Level 2 charger and at public DC fast chargers. It's taking much longer to get a full charge.

Has anyone else with a Lucid Air experienced this combination of issues? I'm wondering if it's a known software glitch or something more serious with the battery or motor system. What should I be looking for, or is this an immediate service center visit? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

A 'Reduced Propulsion Power' warning combined with slow charging on your 2023 Lucid Air Grand Touring indicates a potential issue within the high-voltage battery system, electric motor, or associated control modules. This is a critical warning that should not be ignored.

Here are the typical steps and potential causes:

  1. Check for Additional Warnings: Look for any other specific warning lights or messages on your dashboard, such as a 'Check EV System' light or a battery icon. These can provide more clues.
  2. Charging System Inspection:
    • Ensure your charging cables (both home and public) are in good condition, free from damage, and properly seated.
    • Try a different charging station or cable if possible, to rule out external charging infrastructure issues.
  3. Potential Causes:
    • High-Voltage Battery System Fault: This is a common cause for reduced power and charging issues. It could be a cell imbalance, a fault in the Battery Management System (BMS), or a temperature sensor issue within the battery pack.
    • Electric Motor/Inverter Issues: Problems with the electric motor or its inverter can trigger reduced power modes.
    • Thermal Management System: Overheating in the battery or motor components can lead to reduced power to protect the system.
    • Software Glitch: While less common for such severe symptoms, a software bug could potentially cause erroneous warnings.
    • OBD-II Codes: A professional scan tool would likely reveal specific diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) such as P0A1F (Drive Motor 'A' Control Module Internal Temperature Sensor Circuit), P0AA6 (Hybrid Battery Voltage System Isolation Fault), or various manufacturer-specific codes related to the high-voltage system.

When to See a Shop: Given the 'Reduced Propulsion Power' warning and significant charging degradation, it is highly recommended to contact Lucid Service immediately. This is not a problem that can typically be resolved by a user. Continuing to drive with this warning could potentially exacerbate the issue or lead to further damage. Lucid technicians have specialized diagnostic tools and expertise to pinpoint the exact cause and perform necessary repairs or software updates.
