Vehicle: 2023 Lucid Air Grand Touring

Hey everyone,

I'm having a persistent problem with my 2023 Lucid Air Grand Touring. Lately, it's been either refusing to charge past 80% or charging incredibly slowly, even on DC fast chargers that usually work perfectly. I've tried multiple Electrify America stations and my home Level 2 charger, but the issue persists.

Sometimes it will just stop charging altogether after reaching 80%, showing a 'Charging Interrupted' message. Other times, it will trickle charge at a ridiculously low rate, taking hours to gain just a few percent. I haven't seen any specific error messages on the dash, just the charging status behaving oddly.

Has anyone else experienced this with their Lucid Air? Could it be a software glitch, or something more serious with the battery or charging system? Any advice would be greatly appreciated before I schedule a service appointment.

It sounds like you're encountering a frustrating issue with your 2023 Lucid Air Grand Touring's charging system. This type of problem can stem from several sources, ranging from simple external factors to more complex internal vehicle systems.

Here are some steps and potential causes to consider:

  1. Troubleshooting Steps:

    • Reboot Infotainment System: Sometimes, a soft reset of the vehicle's infotainment system can resolve temporary communication glitches affecting charging. Consult your owner's manual for the specific procedure.
    • Inspect Charging Port: Carefully check the vehicle's charging port for any debris, bent pins, or signs of damage. Ensure the charging cable is fully seated and locked.
    • Try Different Chargers/Cables: While you've tried multiple stations, ensure you've also tried different physical charging cables if possible, especially at home.
    • Check Scheduled Charging Settings: Verify that no scheduled charging limits or departure times are inadvertently set in your vehicle's settings that might be capping the charge at 80% or slowing it down.
  2. Potential Causes:

    • Battery Management System (BMS) Glitch: The BMS is responsible for monitoring and controlling the battery's charging and discharging. A software bug or a minor fault within the BMS could cause it to incorrectly limit charging or report inaccurate states.
    • Charging Port/Module Fault: The charging port itself or the onboard charging module (OBC) could have an internal fault preventing proper communication with the charger or efficient power transfer.
    • High Voltage (HV) Battery Cell Imbalance/Issue: While less common without specific warnings, an imbalance in battery cells or a developing issue within the HV battery pack could cause the BMS to limit charging to protect the battery.
    • External Charger Compatibility/Fault: Although you've tried multiple, there's a slight chance of widespread compatibility issues or transient faults at the charging stations you've used.
  3. When to See a Shop:

    • If the issue persists after performing the basic troubleshooting steps, it's highly recommended to schedule a service appointment with a Lucid Service Center.
    • Mention any specific behaviors, such as the 'Charging Interrupted' message or the exact percentage it stops at.
    • The service center will be able to perform a deeper diagnostic scan, looking for relevant OBD-II codes (e.g., P0AA6 - Hybrid Battery Voltage System Isolation Fault, P0D27 - DC Charging System Performance, or manufacturer-specific codes related to the charging system or BMS) and conduct specific tests on the battery and charging components. This will help them accurately pinpoint whether it's a software, hardware, or battery-related issue.
