2024 Air Touring AC Not Working - Blowing Warm Air

Vehicle: 2024 Lucid Air Touring

My brand new 2024 Lucid Air Touring's air conditioning just stopped working. It's only blowing warm air, even when set to the lowest temperature. There aren't any obvious warning lights on the dash, but the cabin just isn't cooling down at all. This is pretty frustrating for a new car that's only a few months old.

Has anyone else experienced this with their Lucid Air? What could be the problem? Is there a fuse I should check, or is this something more serious that needs a service appointment right away?

ClearTheCode admin answer:

It's certainly frustrating when the AC stops working on a brand new vehicle, especially a premium EV like your 2024 Lucid Air Touring. While there might not be a specific dash warning, a lack of cold air indicates a problem within the HVAC system.

Initial Checks:

  1. Climate Control Settings: Double-check that the AC is actually turned on and not just the fan. Ensure the temperature is set to 'LO' and that dual-zone settings aren't causing confusion.
  2. Fan Speed: Increase the fan speed to see if there's any change in air temperature, however slight.
  3. Listen for Compressor: With the car on and AC set to cold, listen for any sounds from the front of the vehicle that might indicate the AC compressor engaging. A lack of sound could suggest it's not activating.

Potential Causes:

  • Low Refrigerant: Even in new cars, a small leak can lead to insufficient refrigerant, which is essential for the AC system to cool. This is a common cause of warm air.
  • AC Compressor Failure: The compressor is the heart of the AC system. If it fails, the system cannot circulate refrigerant and cool the air. This can be due to an electrical fault or mechanical issue.
  • HVAC Control Module Fault: A glitch or failure in the electronic control unit that manages the climate system can prevent proper operation.
  • Temperature or Pressure Sensor Issue: Faulty sensors can provide incorrect readings to the control module, causing it to mismanage the cooling process.
  • Blend Door Actuator Failure: These actuators control the mix of hot and cold air. If one is stuck open to the hot side, only warm air will flow.

When to see a shop:

  • Given that your vehicle is a 2024 model, it's almost certainly under warranty. This issue warrants a visit to a Lucid service center. They have the diagnostic tools to accurately check refrigerant levels, test the compressor, and scan for any fault codes within the HVAC system. Do not attempt to add refrigerant yourself, as modern EV AC systems are complex and require specialized equipment.
