2024 Lucid Air Grand Touring Won't Start - 'Service Required' Message

Vehicle: 2024 Lucid Air Grand Touring

My 2024 Lucid Air Grand Touring suddenly wouldn't start this morning. I got in, pressed the brake, and nothing. The dashboard lit up with a 'Service Required' message, but no specific error code was displayed. The car is completely unresponsive, no lights, no infotainment, just that message.

I tried locking and unlocking with the key fob, even tried the Lucid app, but it's like the car is totally dead. I'm wondering if it's the 12V battery, which I've heard can cause issues in EVs, or something more serious. Has anyone experienced this with their Lucid Air, especially a newer model year like mine?

It was fully charged last night, so I don't think it's the main high-voltage battery. Any tips on what I can check before calling for a tow?

Experiencing a complete no-start with a 'Service Required' message on your 2024 Lucid Air Grand Touring can be frustrating, but it often points to a few common issues, even in advanced EVs.

  1. Check the 12V Battery: Despite being an EV, your Lucid Air still relies on a conventional 12V battery for powering auxiliary systems, including the car's computer, door locks, and the ability to 'wake up' the high-voltage system. A dead or weak 12V battery is a very common cause for a no-start condition and generic 'Service Required' messages. You can attempt to jump-start the 12V battery using another vehicle or a portable jump starter, following the instructions in your owner's manual carefully. There's usually a specific jump-start terminal under the frunk.

  2. Key Fob Interference/Battery: Ensure your key fob battery isn't dead. Try using your spare key fob if you have one. Sometimes, electromagnetic interference can prevent the car from recognizing the fob.

  3. Software Glitch/Reset: While less likely for a complete no-start, a hard reset can sometimes resolve software glitches. This usually involves disconnecting the 12V battery for a few minutes, but this should only be done if you are comfortable and familiar with the procedure, as it can be tricky in an EV.

Common Causes:

  • Dead 12V battery: The most frequent culprit for a 'brick' condition in EVs.
  • Software malfunction: Can prevent the car from initiating its startup sequence.
  • High-voltage system fault: Less common for a complete no-start without other specific warnings, but possible.

When to See a Shop: If a 12V jump-start doesn't resolve the issue, or if the car starts but immediately displays critical warnings, it's time to contact Lucid Roadside Assistance or schedule service. A qualified technician will need to perform a diagnostic scan to identify specific fault codes (even if not displayed on the dash, they are often stored in the car's modules) and pinpoint the exact cause of the no-start condition. Do not attempt to diagnose high-voltage system issues yourself.
