2024 Lucid Air Touring - Charging Port Not Locking & Slow Home Charging

Vehicle: 2024 Lucid Air Touring

I'm having persistent problems with my 2024 Lucid Air Touring's charging port. Lately, the charging cable often doesn't lock securely into the port, and I have to jiggle it multiple times to get it to engage. This happens both with my home Level 2 charger and public stations.

On top of that, my home charging speed seems to have significantly dropped. It used to charge fully overnight without issues, but now it's taking much longer, sometimes not even reaching 100% by morning. I've checked my home charger, and it works fine with my other EV.

Could this be a faulty charging port or something more serious with the vehicle's charging system? I'm worried about potential damage.

Charging issues can be frustrating and point to several potential problems with the vehicle's charging system or the port itself.

  1. Charging Port Latch Mechanism: The inability of the cable to lock securely suggests a mechanical issue with the charging port's latch. This could be due to a faulty solenoid, a broken spring, or debris obstructing the mechanism. This is a common point of failure due to repeated use.
  2. Communication Error: The vehicle and charger communicate to negotiate charging parameters. If there's a poor connection due to the insecure lock, or an internal fault, this communication can be interrupted, leading to slow charging or no charging. This can sometimes trigger an OBD code like P0D29 (EVSE Communication Error) or P0D2A (Charging System Malfunction).
  3. Internal Charging System Fault: If the port itself seems fine, the issue could stem from the onboard charger (OBC) or related power electronics. A fault here would limit the power the car can accept, resulting in slower charging speeds.
  4. Cable or EVSE (Charger) Issue: While you've tested your home charger, it's worth trying a different cable if possible, as a damaged cable can also cause these symptoms.

When to see a shop: Given the dual issues of the locking mechanism and slow charging, it's highly recommended to schedule service with a Lucid dealership immediately. They can diagnose the exact cause, whether it's a faulty charging port assembly, a sensor issue, or a problem with the onboard charging components. Continuing to use a faulty port could potentially damage the vehicle or the charging infrastructure.
