2025 Lucid Air Pure - Driver Door Handle Not Presenting Reliably

Vehicle: 2025 Lucid Air Pure

I recently took delivery of my 2025 Lucid Air Pure, and I'm already having issues with the driver's side door handle. About 30-40% of the time, it simply doesn't present when I approach the car or press the key fob. I have to repeatedly lock and unlock the car, or sometimes even use the passenger door to get in.

This is quite frustrating for a brand new vehicle. All other door handles seem to work fine. I've checked for obstructions and tried different key fob batteries, but the problem persists specifically with the driver's door.

Is this a known bug with the newer Lucid Air models, or could it be a faulty sensor or motor in the handle mechanism? What should I do?

Retractable door handles are a signature feature of many luxury EVs, but they can sometimes develop quirks. A brand new 2025 Lucid Air experiencing this issue points to a specific fault that needs attention.

  1. Sensor Malfunction: The door handles rely on proximity sensors (for key fob detection) and internal sensors (to detect presentation and retraction). A faulty sensor on the driver's side could be failing to register your approach or the command to present.
  2. Motor or Gear Mechanism Failure: Each handle has a small motor and gear assembly responsible for its smooth operation. If this motor is weak, jammed, or the gears are stripped, the handle may not present fully or reliably. This is more likely if you hear unusual noises when it attempts to present.
  3. Wiring Issue: A loose or damaged wire connection to the driver's side door handle unit can interrupt power or data signals, leading to intermittent functionality. This is less common in new vehicles but possible.
  4. Software Glitch: While less likely to affect only one handle, a minor software bug specific to the driver's door's control module could be at fault. Ensuring your car's software is up to date is always a good first step, though it usually affects all handles if it's a general bug.
  5. Physical Obstruction: Even a small piece of debris or ice (if in a cold climate) could impede the handle's movement, but you mentioned checking for obstructions.

When to see a shop: Since this is a brand new vehicle and the issue is persistent and isolated to one door, it's definitely a warranty claim. You should immediately contact your Lucid service center. They will be able to:

  • Diagnose the specific fault using their proprietary diagnostic tools.
  • Check for any relevant technical service bulletins (TSBs).
  • Inspect the handle assembly, sensors, motor, and wiring.
  • Replace the faulty component, which is typically the entire handle assembly, under warranty. There aren't standard OBD-II codes for door handle issues, but Lucid's internal diagnostics will pinpoint the problem.
