Vehicle: 2022 Lucid Air Grand Touring

Hey everyone,

I've got a 2022 Lucid Air Grand Touring, and I've noticed that the airflow from the vents seems a bit weaker lately. Also, there's a slight musty smell when I first turn on the AC, which wasn't there before.

I'm thinking it might be time to replace the cabin air filter. I've done this on my previous ICE cars, but I'm not sure about the Lucid Air.

Has anyone here tackled this DIY project? Where is the cabin air filter located in the Lucid Air, and what's the process like? Are there any special tools or tricks I should be aware of? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Sarah, it sounds like you're on the right track with suspecting the cabin air filter. Reduced airflow and musty smells are classic symptoms of a clogged filter. Replacing it is a common and important maintenance task for your 2022 Lucid Air Grand Touring, ensuring clean air quality inside the cabin.

Here’s a general guide for replacing the cabin air filter in your Lucid Air:

  1. Locate the Filter: The cabin air filter in the Lucid Air is typically located behind the glove compartment or under the dashboard on the passenger side. You may need to remove a trim panel or the glove box itself to access the housing.
  2. Access the Housing: Carefully open or remove the glove compartment. Look for a rectangular cover or access panel, often secured by clips or small screws.
  3. Remove Old Filter: Once the housing is open, note the direction of the airflow arrow on the old filter before pulling it out. This is crucial for installing the new filter correctly.
  4. Clean Housing (Optional but Recommended): While the filter is out, it's a good idea to vacuum any debris or leaves that might have accumulated in the housing.
  5. Install New Filter: Insert the new cabin air filter, ensuring the airflow arrow points in the correct direction (usually towards the rear of the vehicle or as indicated by the housing).
  6. Reassemble: Close the filter housing cover, reattach any removed panels, and reinstall the glove compartment.

Causes of a Clogged Filter:

  • Environmental Factors: Dust, pollen, leaves, and other airborne particles are constantly drawn into the HVAC system.
  • Mileage/Time: Filters naturally accumulate debris over time and mileage.
  • Driving Conditions: Frequent driving in dusty or polluted areas accelerates clogging.

When to See a Shop:

  • If you've replaced the filter and the airflow issue or musty smell persists, there might be a deeper problem with your HVAC system, such as a failing blower motor, a clogged drain line, or mold growth on the evaporator coil.
  • If you encounter any difficulty accessing the filter or are unsure about the process, it's always best to consult a certified Lucid service technician. They have the specialized tools and knowledge to diagnose and repair any underlying issues.
  • There are no specific OBD codes directly related to a clogged cabin air filter, as it's a mechanical obstruction rather than an electronic fault. However, if a blower motor is struggling due to restricted airflow, it could potentially lead to electrical fault codes related to the HVAC system in more severe cases, though this is rare for just a filter issue.
