Vehicle: 2022 Lucid Air Grand Touring

Hey everyone,

I've got a 2022 Lucid Air Grand Touring, and lately, I've noticed the airflow from the vents isn't as strong as it used to be. Also, there's a slight musty smell sometimes, especially when I first turn on the AC.

I'm thinking it might be time to replace the cabin air filter. Does anyone have experience doing this themselves on a Lucid Air? I'm pretty handy and would prefer to tackle it myself if it's not too complicated.

Are there any specific tools required, or tricky clips I should be aware of? Also, what's the recommended replacement interval for these filters? Any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Sarah, it sounds like you're on the right track! A reduced airflow and musty smell are classic symptoms of a clogged cabin air filter. Replacing it is a common maintenance task that many Lucid Air owners can perform themselves.

Here's a general guide for replacing the cabin air filter in your 2022 Lucid Air Grand Touring:

  1. Locate the Filter Housing: The cabin air filter in the Lucid Air is typically located behind the glove compartment or under the dashboard on the passenger side. You may need to open the glove box and gently push in on the sides to release it from its hinges, allowing it to drop down further.
  2. Access the Filter Cover: Once the glove box is out of the way, you should see a rectangular plastic cover, often secured by clips or small screws. Release these to open the housing.
  3. Remove the Old Filter: Carefully pull out the old cabin air filter. Note its orientation (which way the airflow arrow is pointing) as you remove it. It's common for these filters to be quite dirty, especially if they haven't been changed in a while.
  4. Clean the Housing (Optional): While the filter is out, it's a good idea to quickly wipe down the inside of the housing to remove any dust or debris.
  5. Install the New Filter: Insert the new cabin air filter, ensuring the airflow arrow points in the correct direction (usually towards the rear of the vehicle or as indicated by markings on the housing). Make sure it sits snugly in the housing.
  6. Reassemble: Close the filter housing cover, secure any clips or screws, and then re-install the glove compartment.

Causes of Clogged Filters:

  • Environmental Factors: Driving in dusty areas, urban environments with high pollution, or areas with a lot of pollen can accelerate clogging.
  • Time: Over time, even in clean environments, the filter will accumulate particles.

When to See a Shop: While this is a straightforward DIY task, you might consider a shop if:

  • You encounter difficulty accessing the filter or removing components.
  • You notice persistent odors or airflow issues even after replacing the filter, which could indicate a deeper HVAC system problem (e.g., evaporator coil mold).
  • You prefer professional service for all maintenance tasks.

Recommended Replacement Interval: Lucid generally recommends replacing the cabin air filter every 1-2 years or 15,000-20,000 miles, whichever comes first. However, if you frequently drive in dusty conditions or notice reduced airflow/odors, it's wise to replace it more often. Regular replacement ensures optimal air quality inside your vehicle and efficient operation of your HVAC system.
