Vehicle: 2023 Lucid Air Pure

Hey everyone,

I've got a 2023 Lucid Air Pure and I'm wondering about the cabin air filter. I've noticed the airflow isn't quite as strong as it used to be, and sometimes there's a slight musty smell when I first turn on the AC.

In my old ICE car, replacing the cabin air filter was a pretty straightforward DIY job, usually behind the glove box. Is it similar for the Lucid Air? I'm trying to save a trip to the service center if it's something I can tackle myself.

Has anyone here done this on their Lucid Air? What tools did you need, and where exactly is it located? Any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated!

Replacing your cabin air filter is a great DIY maintenance task for your 2023 Lucid Air Pure, and it's essential for maintaining good air quality inside your vehicle and the efficiency of your HVAC system.

Here's a general guide:

  1. Why it's important: The cabin air filter traps dust, pollen, pollutants, and other airborne particles, preventing them from entering the cabin. A clogged filter can lead to reduced airflow, musty odors, and decreased HVAC performance.
  2. Location: On most Lucid Air models, the cabin air filter is typically located behind the glove box. You'll need to access the area by opening the glove box and potentially removing some trim panels or screws.
  3. Tools you might need:
    • Small Phillips head screwdriver (or Torx, depending on fasteners)
    • Plastic trim removal tool (helpful to prevent scratching interior panels)
    • New cabin air filter (ensure it's the correct part for your Lucid Air model year)
  4. DIY Steps:
    • Empty the glove box: Remove all contents for easier access.
    • Open the glove box fully: Some models may require pressing in on the sides to allow it to drop further.
    • Locate the filter housing: You'll typically see a rectangular cover or panel that houses the filter.
    • Remove retaining clips/screws: Carefully unclip or unscrew the cover.
    • Pull out the old filter: Note the direction of the airflow arrow on the old filter before removing it. This is crucial for correct installation of the new one.
    • Insert the new filter: Ensure the airflow arrow on the new filter points in the same direction as the old one (usually towards the rear of the vehicle).
    • Reassemble: Replace the cover, clips, and screws. Close the glove box.
  5. Frequency: It's generally recommended to inspect or replace your cabin air filter every 12,000 to 15,000 miles or at least once a year, especially if you drive in dusty environments or have allergies.

When to see a shop: If, after replacing the filter, you still experience persistent musty odors, significantly reduced airflow, or hear unusual noises from your HVAC system, it could indicate a more complex issue. This might include a clogged evaporator drain, a failing blower motor, or issues with the HVAC system's refrigerant or components. While a dirty cabin filter doesn't typically trigger OBD codes, these other issues might. In such cases, it's best to have a certified Lucid service technician diagnose the problem.
