Vehicle: 2022 Lucid Air Pure

Hey everyone,

I've noticed a distinct musty smell coming from the vents in my 2022 Lucid Air Pure lately, especially when I first turn on the AC. Also, the airflow seems a bit weaker than it used to be, even on higher fan settings.

I'm thinking it might be time to replace the cabin air filter. Has anyone done this DIY on their Lucid Air? What's involved, and where is it located? Any specific tools needed or things to watch out for?

Thanks for any help!

It sounds like your suspicion is correct; a musty smell and reduced airflow are classic symptoms of a clogged or dirty cabin air filter. This is a common maintenance item for all vehicles, including EVs like your Lucid Air.

Here's a general guide for replacing the cabin air filter on a Lucid Air:

  1. Location: The cabin air filter on Lucid Air models is typically located behind the glove compartment. You'll need to open the glove box and usually detach it from its hinges or lower it further to access the filter housing.
  2. Tools: You might need a screwdriver (Phillips or Torx, depending on the fasteners) to remove any panels or screws securing the glove box or filter housing cover. A trim removal tool can also be helpful to avoid scratching plastic.
  3. Procedure:
    • Empty the glove compartment.
    • Locate and remove any screws or clips holding the glove box in place.
    • Gently lower or remove the glove box to expose the filter housing.
    • Unclip or unscrew the cover of the filter housing.
    • Note the direction of the airflow arrow on the old filter before removing it. This is crucial for correct installation of the new filter.
    • Slide out the old filter.
    • Insert the new filter, ensuring the airflow arrow points in the correct direction (usually towards the rear of the vehicle or as indicated by the housing).
    • Reattach the filter housing cover, resecure the glove box, and replace any removed panels.

Causes: Cabin air filters naturally collect dust, pollen, leaves, and other debris over time. When they become saturated, they restrict airflow and can harbor mold or mildew, leading to odors.

When to See a Shop: While this is a straightforward DIY for most, if you're uncomfortable with the process, cannot locate the filter, or encounter any resistance during removal/installation, it's best to consult a Lucid service center. They can perform the replacement quickly and ensure everything is reassembled correctly. Regular replacement (typically every 1-2 years or 15,000-30,000 miles, but check your owner's manual) is key for optimal cabin air quality.
