Persistent Squeaking from Front Suspension on 2022 Lucid Air Grand Touring

Vehicle: 2022 Lucid Air Grand Touring

My 2022 Lucid Air Grand Touring, with around 25,000 miles, has developed an annoying squeaking noise from the front suspension, especially noticeable over speed bumps or uneven roads. It sounds like a rubber-on-metal type of squeak.

I also feel like the ride quality isn't as smooth as it used to be, and sometimes the car seems to sit slightly lower on one side after being parked for a while, though it usually corrects itself when I start driving.

Could this be an issue with the air suspension system, or perhaps just worn bushings? I'm concerned about the longevity of the air suspension components. Any similar experiences or diagnostic tips for a 2022 model?

ClearTheCode admin answer:

Squeaking noises from the suspension and potential ride height inconsistencies can indicate several issues, especially with advanced air suspension systems like those in the Lucid Air.

  1. Worn Bushings: The most common cause of squeaking in any vehicle's suspension is worn or dry rubber bushings in control arms, sway bars, or shock mounts. As rubber ages and dries out, it loses its lubrication and can rub, causing noise. This is a relatively common wear item.
  2. Air Suspension Components:
    • Air Strut/Spring Leak: If an air spring or strut develops a small leak, it can cause the vehicle to sag on one side when parked. While the compressor can re-level it when driving, a persistent leak will eventually overwork the compressor and lead to more significant issues.
    • Compressor or Valve Block Issues: The air suspension compressor or its associated valve block might be failing, leading to inefficient or slow height adjustments. This could also manifest as unusual noises.
    • Sensor Malfunction: Ride height sensors can sometimes malfunction, giving incorrect readings to the air suspension control module, leading to improper leveling.
  3. Loose Fasteners: Over time, suspension components can sometimes loosen, leading to play and noise. A thorough inspection can identify and rectify this.

When to see a shop: Given the combination of squeaking and potential ride height issues, it's highly advisable to have your Lucid Air inspected by a service center. They can perform a comprehensive suspension diagnostic, including:

  • Visual inspection of bushings and linkages.
  • Leak detection for the air suspension system.
  • Checking the air compressor and valve block operation.
  • Scanning for chassis-related (C-codes) or suspension-specific diagnostic trouble codes, such as C0575 (Air Suspension Compressor Control Circuit) or similar codes related to pressure or height sensor faults. Addressing these issues early can prevent more costly repairs down the line.
