Vehicle: 2022 Lucid Air Grand Touring

My 2022 Lucid Air Grand Touring has been experiencing some really annoying issues with the Pilot Panel and Glass Cockpit display. About once a week, the entire screen will freeze up, becoming completely unresponsive to touch.

Sometimes it goes completely black for a minute or two before rebooting, but other times it just stays frozen until I park the car and restart it. It's particularly frustrating when I'm relying on navigation or trying to adjust climate controls.

I've tried doing the soft reset mentioned in the manual, but it only seems to be a temporary fix. Has anyone else had these infotainment glitches? What did you do to resolve it?

ClearTheCode admin answer:

Infotainment system issues like freezing or a black screen on your 2022 Lucid Air Grand Touring can be disruptive and indicate several potential underlying causes. Here's a guide to troubleshooting and understanding the problem:

  1. Perform a Hard Reset (if safe):
    • While a soft reset is often the first step, a hard reset (which might involve holding down specific buttons for a longer duration, or a specific sequence) can sometimes clear deeper software glitches. Consult your Lucid owner's manual for the precise procedure for your model year, as incorrect execution could lead to other issues.
  2. Check for Software Updates:
    • Ensure your vehicle's software is up to date. Lucid frequently releases over-the-air (OTA) updates that include bug fixes and performance improvements for the infotainment system. Check your vehicle's settings for available updates or contact Lucid service to confirm your current software version.
  3. Note Down Occurrences:
    • Keep a log of when the freezing or black screen occurs (e.g., after starting, during navigation, using specific apps). This information can be valuable for technicians.

Common Causes:

  • Software Bugs: The most frequent cause of infotainment glitches. Updates are designed to address these.
  • Insufficient Memory/Processor Overload: Running too many applications or processes in the background can sometimes cause the system to freeze.
  • Hardware Malfunction: Less common, but a faulty display panel, control module, or internal wiring within the infotainment system can lead to these symptoms.
  • Power Fluctuation: Intermittent power supply issues to the infotainment unit, though this often manifests in other electrical problems too.

Potential OBD Codes: Infotainment issues typically do not trigger standard powertrain OBD-II codes. However, Lucid's internal diagnostic system may log specific codes related to the infotainment control unit (ICU) or display modules. These would be proprietary manufacturer codes (e.g., B-codes or U-codes related to communication errors) that only a dealership diagnostic tool can read.

When to See a Shop: If software updates and resets do not resolve the issue, or if the problem becomes more frequent and severe, it's time to schedule an appointment with a Lucid service center. They can perform a deeper diagnostic scan, check for hardware faults, and potentially reflash or replace the infotainment control unit. Given the critical role of the display in a Lucid, prompt resolution is advisable.
