Vehicle: 2023 Lucid Air Grand Touring

Hey everyone,

I'm experiencing significantly slower Level 2 AC charging on my 2023 Lucid Air Grand Touring than I expected. I usually charge at home using a 48A charger, which should give me much faster rates, but lately, it feels like it's barely trickle charging.

I've tried different charging cables and even a public Level 2 charger, and the issue persists. The charger itself doesn't show any error codes, but the car's display indicates a much lower charge rate than usual. Is anyone else with a 2023 model seeing this? Could it be a software issue or something more serious with the onboard charger?

ClearTheCode admin answer:

Slow AC charging can be a frustrating issue, especially with a premium EV like your Lucid Air. Here's a breakdown of potential causes and steps to take:

  1. Check Charging Settings: Ensure your vehicle's charging settings haven't been inadvertently adjusted to a lower amperage limit. Some EVs allow you to set preferred charging rates, which could be limiting the input.
  2. Software Glitch: Minor software bugs can sometimes interfere with power management. Try performing a soft reset of your infotainment system (refer to your owner's manual for specific steps) as this can sometimes clear temporary glitches.
  3. Charging Infrastructure: While you've tried different chargers, ensure the electrical circuit at home is robust enough and not experiencing voltage drops, especially during peak usage times. A dedicated EV circuit is ideal.
  4. Onboard Charger (OBC) Fault: The onboard charger converts AC power from your home or public Level 2 charger into DC power for the battery. A fault in the OBC could limit charging speed. This often requires professional diagnosis.
  5. Charging Port or Cable Issue: Even if a cable seems fine, internal damage can reduce its capacity. Similarly, the vehicle's charging port could have a loose connection or damaged pins.

When to See a Shop: If the issue persists after checking your vehicle's settings and trying different reliable charging stations, it's time to schedule a service appointment with a Lucid service center. They can run diagnostic tests, which might reveal specific fault codes (e.g., related to the OBC or battery management system). There might also be a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) or recall related to charging performance for your specific model year that they can address.
