Vehicle: 2021 Lucid Air Dream Edition

Hey everyone,

My 2021 Lucid Air Dream Edition is starting to have streaky wipers, especially on the driver's side. It's getting pretty annoying and affects visibility, so I figure it's time for new blades.

Has anyone replaced the wiper blades on their Lucid Air themselves? Are there any special procedures or specific blade types recommended? I'm used to just popping them off, but with these newer cars, sometimes there's a 'service mode' or something similar.

Any tips would be appreciated!

Replacing wiper blades on your 2021 Lucid Air Dream Edition is a straightforward DIY task, but you're right to consider a 'service mode' or specific procedure. Modern vehicles often have wipers that tuck under the hood line, making direct access difficult without potentially damaging the paint or hood.

Here's how to approach it:

  1. Enter Wiper Service Mode:
    • This is crucial. Consult your Lucid Air owner's manual for the exact steps to put the wipers into 'service position' or 'maintenance mode.' This typically involves turning off the ignition, then immediately pressing and holding the wiper stalk up for a few seconds. The wipers will then move to a vertical position, allowing access.
    • NEVER attempt to lift the wiper arms when they are in their resting position, as this can damage the hood or wiper mechanism.
  2. Tools: Generally, no special tools are required beyond your hands.
  3. Procedure:
    • Once in service mode, lift the wiper arm away from the windshield.
    • Locate the small tab or button on the wiper blade where it connects to the arm. Press or slide this tab.
    • Slide the old blade off the arm's hook or J-clip. Note how the old blade was attached to ensure correct installation of the new one.
    • Slide the new blade onto the arm until it clicks securely into place.
    • G gently lower the wiper arm back onto the windshield.
    • Repeat for the other side.
    • Exit service mode (often by turning the ignition on or following the manual's instructions).

Recommended Blade Types:

  • OEM Blades: Lucid-branded blades are always a safe bet for perfect fit and performance.
  • Premium Aftermarket: High-quality beam blades (like Bosch Icon, Rain-X Latitude, or similar) are generally recommended for their even pressure distribution and durability. Ensure they are the correct length for your Lucid Air (check your owner's manual or measure your existing blades).

Causes of Streaking:

  • Worn Rubber: The most common cause. Over time, the rubber hardens, cracks, or tears.
  • Contamination: Dirt, grime, or wax buildup on the windshield or blade can cause streaking. Clean your windshield regularly.
  • Bent Wiper Arm: Less common, but a bent arm can prevent even pressure.

When to See a Shop: If you're uncomfortable performing the replacement, or if new blades don't resolve the streaking (which could indicate an issue with the wiper arm or motor), a Lucid service center can diagnose and fix the problem. This is typically not associated with any OBD codes unless there's an electrical fault with the wiper motor itself.
