My 2017 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring, with about 70k miles, has recently started running rough, especially at idle. The check engine light came on yesterday. I scanned it and got a P0301 code, indicating a misfire on cylinder 1.
It feels like a definite misfire, and the car sometimes hesitates when accelerating from a stop. The fuel economy also seems to have dipped slightly. I'm worried about potential engine damage if I keep driving it like this.
What could be causing this, and is it a common issue for this model year? Should I try replacing the spark plugs first, or is it likely something more serious?
